Maths Starter

I’ve set each page up based on difficulty. You MUST choose to do one although you can do more  if you wish. Each will be sent on Seesaw. Use your jotter to record your work.

3. Create an informative poster about Area and Perimeter.

Things to include:

  • How to calculate perimeter
  • How to calculate area of rectangles

  • Links to the world of where Area and Perimeter is used.

You may use paper or create your poster on the computer. Please send this to me.

REMEMBER TO SEND ALL YOUR WORK THROUGH SEESAW.

Wednesday 25th March (Lesson 3 – Personal Research / Pupil Choice)

This afternoon you should be working on your ‘Life Below Water’ research project. Remember this is due on Friday. Here is the original lesson from Monday. Remember to cover as many of the bullet points as possible in your presentation.

Monday 23rd March (Global Goals Topic)

 

In order to break up your afternoon I want you to do 1 or 2 of the following tasks:

  • Leave nice note somewhere for someone else to find it
  • FaceTime a relative or someone you miss. Tell them everything you miss about them

  • Do something helpful for someone in your household

 

 

 

  • Hide sweets around the house and start a treasure hunt with your family

 

  • Have a go at some of our Lego Challenges

Challenge Questions 1

  1. How do the wolves try to comfort Feo at the beginning of the chapter?
  2. Why is Rakov embarrassed?
  3. Where have the soldiers taken Marina?

Challenge Questions 2

  1. What is a labour camp? Why does Feo get confused when she hears her mother will be sent to a camp?
  2. How is Feo really feeling when she hears that the house has been burned down?
  3. Why do you think Feo is reluctant to ask Ilya for help?
  4. Who are the men watching at the end of the chapter? How do you know?
  5. How can being embarrassed be more dangerous than being angry? What does this mean?
  6. What does Ilya mean when he says Rakov ‘bleeds snow’?

Task 3 – Summarise

Walliams – Order these events from this chapter:

  • The wolves gather round Feo and comfort her.
  • Feo wakes up and remembers the awful events of the nights before.
  • As they ride away on the back of the wolves, there are three soldiers watching them.

Monday 23rd March (Global Goals Topic)

For the next part of our topic, you are being asked to carry out a research project on “LIFE BELOW WATER”. Your research can be presented as:

  • a report
  • a video
  • a powerpoint
  • sway presentation.

In your report I am looking for you to include the following:

  • locate the major oceans on a map and take account of where they are in relation to countries and places of interest
  • research key facts about the main oceans of the world
  • explore the effects of climate change on the world’s oceans
  • research the ‘bleaching’ of the Great Barrier Reef and how climate change is contributing to this
  • suggest ways humans could slow down the process of climate change
  • investigate which oceans have particular problems with pollution
  • suggest ways the governments of countries around polluted oceans can work to improve them
  • investigate some of the marine life which are threatened by human intervention.

SEE USEFUL WEBSITES 

EXTENSION – To up-level your project you could add some of the following:

  • research to find out about organisations who work to protect oceans
  • choose and research something which lives under the water
  • research the Great Barrier Reef and how organisations work to protect it
  • how sound vibrations travels through waves and water
  • investigate how dolphins communicate
  • research why sound travels faster through water than through the air
  • investigate why the temperature of the water effects the speed that the sound travels
  • give my opinion on why looking after the oceans are a priority

Monday 23rd March (LITERACY)

Crash!

We are going to do some imaginative writing. We will use this picture as our writing stimulus. Use your jotter for all tasks and remember to use your imagination.

1) Question time! (Remember to answer in sentences and be imaginative)

  1. How has the helicopter crashed?
  2. What do you think he should try to do next?
  3. Who might be able to help in this situation?
  4. What do you think you would do if you were in a similar situation?
  5. Why do you think he is afraid?
  6. What might he be afraid of?

2) Sentence challenge!

Using an adverb at the beginning of a sentence makes your writing more interesting.

Add an adverb at the beginning of these sentences:

Copy and Complete

________, the helicopter was whirring.

Now write your own sentence and remember to use an adverb at the beginning.

 

3) Story starter!

Lawrence was injured, afraid, lost and completely alone. He had been thrown viciously from the aircraft after the flock of birds had attacked the propellers. As he laid there, listening to his racing heart, he wondered what would happen to him. How would he make it out alive?
