Maths (Tuesday 2nd June)

Data Handling

Today we will just be continuing on from yesterday’s data handling. Today you will be using line graphs to answer the questions, so again read carefully. The scale does not always stand for 1 so make sure you figure out the scale before answering. Try and do as much as you can 🙂

Any questions, feel free to message and I will try and help you 🙂

Miss Todd 🙂

Maths (Monday 1st June)

Maths

This week we are going to be focussing on Data Handling.

Today you will be interpreting data from tables and graphs that are already provided for you. It is important that you read the questions and pay close attention if there is a key as this does not always stand for 1.

Please complete Q1-6

Any problems then please get in touch!

Maths Challenge (Friday 29th May)

As you all know, Miss Todd loves a Maths Challenge!

Every day a Maths Challenge has been posted on twitter through glow and I would love if you could attempt today’s challenge! Think of all the strategies you learned in Maths Camps; mistakes are good and struggling helps your brain grow! I have attached the link for you to access the blog.

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/re/resourcestosupportlearning/team-ren-maths/

When you complete the task, take some photographs to show off your work and I will share some of them on twitter for the Maths Team to see! Lets see how many of you can complete it!

I cannot wait to see all your hard work!

Monday 18th May (Maths)

L.I – revise strategies for multiplication and division.

Mental Maths Starter – Time yourself to see how long it takes you to complete all 25 questions on division. Remember there will be some questions that require remainders.

Main Lesson

Today we are going to practice our multiplying and dividing using formal methods. You will also use mental maths strategies for multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Watch the 2 videos below to remind you how to do this.

Jotter Work – Complete the following questions. For Q15 each question requires a different number operation.

Extension – Sumdog Challenge

Monday 11th May (Maths)

Maths

L.I – We are learning to use formal methods to lay out multiplication sums involving 2 digits x 2 digits and 3 digits x 2 digits.

Maths Starter –

Try the following sums using the grid method (Link to video for revision)

a) 34 x 21    b) 65 x43      c) 145 x 16     d) 278 x 34

Today we are going to be learning about using the formal method for multiplying numbers by 2 digits. Some of your parents may remember this at school as long multiplication.

Watch the video link below up to 3:27m.

  1. Try the following multiplication sums using the formal method.

a) 32×17     b) 52×23     c) 37x 25     d) 82×36

Check your answers for each one using the grid method.

2. A ticket to the theme park costs £26 and a class of 31 children want to go for a school trip. How much will it cost altogether? (Use the formal method or grid method to calculate).

Calculate the area of rectangle.

Calculate the area of a right angled triangle.

2. Chilli Challenge –

I’ve set each page up based on difficulty. You MUST choose to do one although you can do more  if you wish. Each will be sent on Seesaw. Use your jotter to record your work.

 Chilli Challenge (Mild)

 Chilli Challenge (Medium)

 Chilli Challenge (Hot)

3. Create an informative poster about Area and Perimeter.

Things to include:

  • How to calculate perimeter
  • How to calculate area of rectangles
  • How to calculate the area of triangles
  • Units of measure
  • Diagrams/Pictures/Examples
  • Links to the world of where Area and Perimeter is used.

You may use paper or create your poster on the computer. Please send this to me.

REMEMBER TO SEND ALL YOUR WORK THROUGH SEESAW.

4. SUMDOG ASSESSMENT

Log on to Sumdog and you will automatically be directed to an assessment on Area and Perimeter. You have 20 questions to answer. GOOD LUCK!!!

Home Learning Booklet – Maths Activity 1 p28-29

Monday 23rd March (MATHS)

Starter Activity

  1. Please see your Seesaw page and glow email. I have added a Maths a day challenge for the month of March. Complete the days 1-10. Pyramids and Cubes group should do CfE 2nd Level whilst Spheres should do CfE First Level Qs. A maximum of 10 minutes is allowed. Click here for timer.

2. When you are finished try to complete the countdown challenge. Again give yourself 10 minutes to see how many different ways you can complete it. The Spheres maths group may use a calculator to help.

Maths Lesson – Perimeter

L.I – Explore the perimeter of 2D shapes.

  1. Teaching Points

  • Perimeter is the length of the boundary around any 2D shape.

Click here to watch a video explaining perimeter.

2. Jotter Work – Making Links

In your jotters record what type of people/jobs might use perimeter? Think about when people need to know about perimeter. What kind of people are they and why do they need to know? Record three examples. Take a photograph of your work and send to me via Seesaw or Glow.

3. Choose 1 of the following activities:

a) All the possibilities

The perimeter of a rectangle is 30cm.  Can you work out all the different possibilities for the sides.

Try working systematically

*Remember you can halve the perimeter to give you the length plus the width, so you can work out the combinations of two numbers which add to that total.

CHALLENGE – Work out the AREA of each rectangle you have created

b) Area and perimeter at home

Can you measure the perimeter of 3 items/surfaces at home. These could include the kitchen work top, the front cover of a book, the living room, windows etc.

Use a measuring tape if you have one. If not use your knowledge of reference measures for length (e.g. longer side of A4 paper is about 30 cm).

CHALLENGE – When you have calculated the perimeter, record these and use this to calculate the area.

PLEASE TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS AND/OR VIDEOS OF YOUR WORK TO SEND AND I WILL PUT THEM ON OUR CLASS BLOG.

4. Plenary – Add traffic lights colours to the success criteria on seesaw/glow.

Extension

Log onto Sumdog. I have set a challenge based on previous work learned on Percentages, Decimals and Fractions. The challenge is to get 50 correct answers in the least number of questions. I will send you your results when your are finished. GOOD LUCK!
