Monday 18th May (Maths)

L.I – revise strategies for multiplication and division.

Mental Maths Starter – Time yourself to see how long it takes you to complete all 25 questions on division. Remember there will be some questions that require remainders.

 

Main Lesson

Today we are going to practice our multiplying and dividing using formal methods. You will also use mental maths strategies for multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Watch the 2 videos below to remind you how to do this.

Monday 18th May (Literacy)

 

Lesson Starter –

In your jotters, write a descriptive paragraph about one of the pictures below. Use the ideas below to help you be descriptive. When you send the work to me, I will try and guess which lizard picture you are describing.

Task 2 – Read Holes Ch 7-8. When reading chapter 8 highlight on the text, evidence about the yellow spotted lizard. Collate your evidence about yellow spotted lizards on the page below.

 

 

 

Friday 15th May (Maths)

Maths Starter – Problem Solving

Sumdog Challenge

Today marks the beginning of the Renfrewshire Sumdog Maths Challenge. Each class has been entered into the competition. However to make this extra competitive, we are making this a class competition between ALL classes at Glencoats. The contest will run from 15th – 21st May. The class with the most participants answering the most questions correctly wins! Good Luck 👍

Friday 15th May (Literacy)

Task 1 – Complete the missing syllables in these three-syllable words. Write the whole word too.

 

Reading

  1. Literacy Starter activity on Seesaw

2. If you haven’t already done so ‘skim’ and ‘scan’ through Chapters 4-6 of ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar taking notes on the setting.

Holes Ch 4, 5 & 6

3. You are going to write a descriptive paragraph about Camp Green Lake. Take this starter sentence.

“Camp Green Lake is a dry, flat wasteland”

Expand on this to write a full descriptive paragraph about the setting. 

Rowling – Must have a variety of sentence openers, prepositional phrases and expanded noun phrases which have been selected carefully for effect.

Dahl Use a variety of preposition in writing and also use ambitious vocabulary to make writing more interesting

Walliams – Write 3-4 sentences. Try to include an adjective (descriptive word) in each sentence.

4. Read over your work and check for missing punctuation. Try to up-level your descriptive paragraph.

Extension Task – Drama (Hot Seating)

You are going to take on the role of Stanley. Prepare questions for an adult to ask you based around;

  • What Stanley felt when he first saw Camp Green Lake?
  • How did it compare to his childhood idea of Camp Fun and Games?

Once you have prepared the questions and answers for Stanley, why not have a go recording a live interview. You are now in the hot seat in the role of Stanley answering questions for 1 minute. Try to impersonate how you imagine the character to be.

 

 

Friday 15th May – Microsoft Teams Chat (2:00pm)

We thought a nice way to end the week would be to have a Microsoft Teams chat. Some of the things we will be looking to discuss with you are:

  • sharing your stories and experiences of home learning so far.
  • Things you have enjoyed and what you would like to do and ideas for learning in final term.
  • Latest news regarding transition to Castlehead.
  • Anything you want to ask or share.

Tuesday 12th May (Literacy)

 

Task 1 – Use skimming and scanning to retrieve details from Chapters 1, 2 & 3 about the setting. Write down notes to help build the setting in your head.

Task 2 – Summarising

  • What impressions do you get of Stanley? Summarise them in 3 words.
  • Summarise your impressions of Camp Green Lake in one sentence.

Task 3 – Independent Reading – Chapters 4,5 and 6. Keep adding notes to your work about the setting in these chapters.
