\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nMany parents do wish their children to wear uniform and many children prefer to wear it.\u00a0 At Fordbank Primary School, we feel that a uniform helps to reduce competition for often expensive, designer clothes and can save a lot of fuss in the morning over what to put on! We also believe that it helps promote a sense of belonging and a positive image in the community.<\/p>\n
There are times when we are happy to accept a more informal dress code such as on Outdoor Learning days.\u00a0 Teachers will inform parents of these days and we are happy for children to wear comfortable and practical clothing that suit the type of activity.\u00a0 We ask that parents try to keep a change of clothing in school bags for emergencies if possible and that children come to school wearing suitable footwear and jackets for the ever-changing Scottish climate!<\/p>\n
Pupils are encouraged to wear the following:<\/p>\n

- Grey or black trousers or skirt<\/li>\n
- Grey or black jumper or green\/turquoise sweatshirt<\/li>\n
- White shirt<\/li>\n
- White or green\/turquoise polo shirt with school badge<\/li>\n
- School tie with shirt<\/li>\n
- Grey or black blazer with school badge<\/li>\n
- Green\/turquoise fleece with badge can also be purchased as can a range of jackets\/waterproofs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

We do ask for your help in providing a suitable kit for PE i.e. sandshoes\/trainers,\u00a0polo shirt\/t-shirt\u00a0and shorts\/leggings \u2013 this allows for easy, safe movement.<\/p>\n
It would be helpful if school clothing could be marked with name tags e.g. coats, sweatshirts, shoe bags, trainers etc.<\/strong><\/p>\n
Some types of clothing will not be allowed in school for reasons of safety, decency or indiscipline. Types of clothing which will not be allowed include:<\/p>\n
- \n
- clothes which are a health or safety risk;<\/li>\n
- clothes which may damage the school building;<\/li>\n
- clothes which may provoke other pupils;<\/li>\n
- clothes which are offensive or indecent; and<\/li>\n
- clothes which encourage the use of alcohol or tobacco, or other inappropriate substances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Pupils will not be deprived of education, any benefit or access to examinations because of not wearing school uniform.<\/p>\n
Grants for footwear and clothing for children are available to parents receiving:<\/p>\n
- \n
- income support;<\/li>\n
- income based job seeker\u2019s allowance;<\/li>\n
- pension credit;<\/li>\n
- housing benefit;<\/li>\n
- council tax benefit; or<\/li>\n
- depending on annual income, child tax credit or working tax credit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Approval of any requests for such grants made by parents in different circumstances are at the discretion of the director of education. Information and application forms may be obtained from schools and from area education offices.<\/p>\n
Parents are asked to assist schools and the authority by ensuring that valuable items and unnecessarily expensive items of clothing are not brought to school.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Parents should note that the authority does not carry insurance to cover the loss of such items and any claims submitted are likely to be met only where the authority can be shown to have been negligent.<\/p>\n
