“Renfrewshire Education Committee strongly encourages the wearing of an agreed school uniform because of the many benefits which flow to the school and families. Each school’s clothing policy should be approved by a majority of pupils, parents and staff.”
Many parents do wish their children to wear uniform and many children prefer to wear it. At Bushes we feel that a uniform helps to reduce competition for often expensive, designer clothes and can save a lot of fuss in the morning over what to put on!
We also believe that it helps promote a sense of belonging and a positive image in the community.
Pupils are encouraged to wear the following:
- Grey trousers or skirt
- Grey jumper or Green sweatshirt
- White or grey shirt
- White polo shirt with school badge
- School tie
- Black blazer with school badge,
- Green Fleece

We do ask for your help in providing a suitable kit for Physical Education i.e. sandshoes, polo shirt and shorts – this allows for easy, safe movement.
To help keep our carpets clean please could we ask you to provide your child with a pair of inexpensive slippers or gym shoes for wearing inside the building.
It would be helpful if school clothing could be marked with name tags e.g. coats, sweatshirts, shoe bags, trainers etc.
Some types of clothing will not be allowed in school for reasons of safety, decency or indiscipline. Types of clothing which will not be allowed include:
- clothes which are a health or safety risk;
- clothes which may damage the school building;
- clothes which may provoke other pupils;
- clothes which are offensive or indecent; and
- clothes which encourage the use of alcohol or tobacco, or other inappropriate substances.
Pupils will not be deprived of education, any benefit or access to examinations because of not wearing school uniform.
Grants for footwear and clothing for children are available to parents receiving:
- income support;
- income based job seeker’s allowance;
- pension credit;
- housing benefit;
- council tax benefit; or
- depending on annual income, child tax credit or working tax credit.
Approval of any requests for such grants made by parents in different circumstances are at the discretion of the director of education. Information and application forms may be obtained from schools and from area education offices.
Parents are asked to assist schools and the authority by ensuring that valuable items and unnecessarily expensive items of clothing are not brought to school.
