{"id":3899,"date":"2017-02-27T12:39:02","date_gmt":"2017-02-27T12:39:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/re\/barsailprimary\/?p=3899"},"modified":"2017-02-27T12:39:02","modified_gmt":"2017-02-27T12:39:02","slug":"school-improvement-plan-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/re\/barsailprimary\/2017\/02\/27\/school-improvement-plan-update\/","title":{"rendered":"School Improvement Plan Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A letter went out yesterday outlining all of the different ways we have been working towards our School Improvement Plan.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the headlines:<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Reading<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are following the Renfrewshire Literacy Strategy<\/p>\n<p>Reading staff training provided this session<\/p>\n<p>New phonics programme from P1-7<\/p>\n<p>Every class has a new library space<\/p>\n<p>Reading information evening<\/p>\n<p>Story club introduced<\/p>\n<p>Barsail Reading Challenges P1-3<\/p>\n<p>First Minister\u2019s Challenge P4-7<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Maths<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Numeracy Champion, Miss Morrison, provides support and staff training<\/p>\n<p>Number Day improved enthusiasm for Maths<\/p>\n<p>Playground markings have had a positive impact on outdoor Maths<\/p>\n<p>Increase in Numeracy sessions on timetables and through homework<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Technologies<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blogging is helping communication<\/p>\n<p>Email alerts for parents available through the website<\/p>\n<p>IPads purchased<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Modern Foreign Languages<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spanish introduced<\/p>\n<p>New Modern Languages club<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Tables<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Appropriate sized tables in infant classes<\/p>\n<p>Horseshoe teaching tables bought<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Pupil Groups<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pupil Council are leading World Book Day \u2013 2<sup>nd<\/sup> March. Children should bring a book and dressing as a book character is optional<\/li>\n<li>Walk to school group \u2013 Remember to join the fun during Walk on Wednesday every week: February \u2013 warm hat, March \u2013 jacket back to front, April \u2013 Easter accessory, May \u2013 odd socks, June \u2013 wacky hair.<\/li>\n<li>Fairtrade Friends \u2013 Fairtrade fortnight is 27<sup>th<\/sup> February \u2013 12<sup>th<\/sup> March. If children bring a fairtrade snack during this time they will get a house point. A Fairtrade stall will be set up Wednesday 1<sup>st<\/sup> March \u2013 Friday 3<sup>rd<\/sup> March. Items will cost up to \u00a33<\/li>\n<li>Our World of Work days 27th and 28th of March<\/li>\n<li>Rights Respecting Heroes day on 29<sup>th<\/sup> March. They would like donations for the local foodbank.<\/li>\n<li>Eco Day\u2026.on 30<sup>th<\/sup> March \u2013 please wear old, outdoor clothes. The Eco Challenges, which have been sent out, are optional and link to this day.<\/li>\n<li>Team Mila and Save the Children fundraiser on 31<sup>st<\/sup> March. Pupils are being asked to donate \u00a31 to wear their own clothes and they can bring in change from their piggy banks to visit fun stalls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other than the charity fundraiser, all pupil led events are free and there is always the option of own clothes instead of dressing up.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Aspirations<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have high expectations for all of our pupils. My aspiration is for every member of the Barsail family to:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dream Big, Aim High and Achieve More!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Celebrating Achievements<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Star award winners<\/p>\n<p>Achievements from school and home are announced at assembly<\/p>\n<p>Head Teacher letters of recognition have been introduced<\/p>\n<p>Head Teacher certificates awarded<\/p>\n<p>Well done to the P1-6 class Scots poetry winners and P7 Burns finalists.<\/p>\n<p>Pupil profiling is being piloted in some classes<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Head Teacher position within Barsail is currently being advertised and the plan is to hold interviews before Easter.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your continued support.
