Our P.E. days are Monday afternoon in the gym hall and a Thursday morning in the studio. This Term we are focusing on practising for Sports Day and enjoying rebound games.<\/p>\n
Please can you remember to remove or cover earrings on a PE day.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Class Dojo<\/u><\/p>\n Please join our class Dojo to keep up to date with weekly class news, photos and more! You can use Dojo to view the points your child has been given and to view our class Dojo story.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n P1 Homework<\/u><\/p>\n During our final term the children will continue to practise all their sounds as we start exploring our new phonics programme \u2018Monster Phonics\u2019. They will sound out and blend words and learn some more \u2018Tricky\u2019 words (these are words which cannot be sounded \u2013 you, we, she, the etc)\u00a0 \u00a0Please continue to practise reading and try some of the suggested activities on the Phonics Grid. Children will find it easier to blend sounds and read words if they use the sound and not the name of the letters, d rather than D, t rather than T etc.<\/p>\n Reading books will continue to be sent home. Reading will be heard in school but please try and have a go at home as well.<\/p>\n Please continue to try some of the activities on the Maths Wall.<\/p>\n P2 Homework<\/p>\n Primary 2 homework remains the same for the final term. The children will have a mixture of fiction and non-fiction reading books, a spelling activity and you can continue to complete activities of your choice from the maths wall.<\/p>\n Class Leadership Role\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This year, our class has leadership responsibility for looking after the birds. This involves feeding the birds and recording the birds which come into the playground.<\/p>\n Reminder<\/u><\/p>\n Please ensure that all items that your child brings to school are clearly marked with their name. This is very helpful if items get misplaced! There is a large lost property box at the school office should you ever wish to check for items that have been missing for more than a few days. We will do our best to send all items home with your child each day!<\/p>\n Here are some of the exciting things we will be learning this term…<\/strong><\/p>\n Literacy We will be reinforcing all the sounds and using this knowledge to blend and read words through play activities and some written tasks. We will develop our recognition of Tricky words. We will enjoy a class story each day and discuss our Likes, Dislikes, Puzzles and Connections. We will continue to explore rhymes and rhyming words. Rhyming is a very important pre-reading skill and an easy one to develop at home through sharing rhymes, stories, poems and silly rhymes!<\/p>\n Lots of listening and talking skills will be developed during the activities above and our house groups will take it in turns to \u2018Show and Tell\u2019 each week. Groups will be put on Dojo a week in advance.<\/p>\n P1 – We will continue Talk for Writing which\u00a0 encourages the children to listen to, learn and re-tell stories. Our first story this term is The Sheep and the Goat.\u00a0 We will explore some non-fiction writing too, using The Gruffalo as our text.\u00a0 Most children are attempting to\u00a0 \u2018have a go\u2019 at writing their own stories, using their phonic knowledge to sound out words and there are lots of opportunities to write during play.<\/p>\n P2 – We will continue Talk for Writing. We will start this term with the story \u2018Monkey See Monkey Do.\u2019 Children will be encouraged to create their own story maps and add writing to them. There will be resources put out in the classroom linked to the current story to spark enthusiasm and imagination. This hopefully sparks some free writing too. Primary 2 will continue to take part in formal handwriting lessons using a lined jotter.<\/p>\n Numeracy and Maths P1 –<\/p>\n During the final term we will\u00a0 explore numbers 0-30 and beyond.\u00a0 Counting, naming, ordinal counting, counting forwards and backwards (starting and stopping at random numbers) clapping and ordering.<\/p>\n We will continue to practise our addition and subtraction skills. The children will use real objects to help them count and record the sums and try to recall some number bonds. We are looking at doubles and halves: double 2 is 4, half of 4 is 2 etc.<\/p>\n We will explore symmetry, fractions and time through lots of play and creativity. We will learn to read analogue and digital o\u2019clock times and recognise halves and quarters.<\/p>\n We will learn about Information Handling where we will collect objects, ask questions and gather information and then display our findings in various ways, including graphs.<\/p>\n P2 –<\/p>\n This term we will be learning about time, multiplication and division and information handling this term. Through play children will explore these concepts by taking part in a variety of games and activities. They will also spend time at our teacher table to engage in some teacher led tasks.<\/p>\n We will continue to reinforce our understanding of numbers to 100 and continue to practise number formation. We will also regularly practise addition and subtraction skills through number talks lessons.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n All children will explore these concepts through a variety of fun, engaging activities, games and play.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Health & Wellbeing\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n We will introduce our RSHPE lessons. Information can be found here. https:\/\/rshp.scot\/early-level\/<\/p>\n Broad General Education<\/u><\/p>\n Our child led topic for this term, which stemmed from the children’s interests and through a whole class discussion is SPACE.<\/p>\n We will also be going on a class trip to Pollok Country Park and the Burrell Collection on Thursday 21st May.<\/p>\n Primary 2 will be hosting a stay and play\/Space topic showcase on Thursday 28th May. We look forward to having you in to visit.<\/p>\n Play<\/u><\/p>\n Play is a very important part of how children learn and our environment promotes challenge and enjoyment and personalisation and choice through opportunities to explore different activities, materials and contexts. Opportunities for the children to be imaginative and creative both indoor and outdoor are provided daily.<\/p>\n Here are some of the many skills being developed during play.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/u><\/p>\n<\/a><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n<\/a> <\/u><\/p>\n<\/a><\/u><\/p>\n<\/a><\/u><\/p>\nAs a class we will continue to explore months of the year and seasons through our class calendar, birthdays and other events. Having a calendar on display at home and discussing events with the children will help with this concept.<\/p>\n
