This year our teacher is Mrs Hunter.<\/p>\n
Mrs Harris will be with the class on Wednesday afternoons and will teach some Health and Wellbeing lessons.<\/p>\n
Our P.E. days are Monday<\/strong> and Thursday. <\/strong>Please ensure your child has a pair of indoor shoes, preferably in a shoe bag which can be left in school. It is easier for the children if they wear a polo shirt or T shirt to school on their gym days.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Class Dojo<\/u><\/p>\n Please join our class Dojo to keep up to date with class news, photos and more! You can use Dojo to view the points your child has been given, their profile and to view our class Dojo story.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Homework<\/u><\/p>\n During our first term which will take us to Christmas, the children will be introduced to sounds each week. The order in which these are introduced, and their associated actions are included in their red folders. Please practise saying the sounds and try some of the suggested activities on the Phonics Grid which will come home soon. Children will find it easier to blend sounds and read words if they use the sound and not the name of the letters. d rather than D, t rather than T etc. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Class Leadership Role\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Primary 1 have responsibility for feeding the birds that visit our playground.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Reminder<\/u><\/p>\n Please ensure that all items that your child brings to school are clearly marked with their name. This is very helpful if items get misplaced!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Here are some of the exciting things we will be learning this term…<\/strong><\/p>\n Literacy We will be introducing sounds using Monster Phonics. We will develop our recognition of Tricky words. We will enjoy a class story each day and discuss our Likes and Dislikes, Puzzles and Connections. We will continue to explore rhymes and rhyming words. Rhyming is a very important pre-reading skill and an easy one to develop at home through sharing rhymes, stories, poems and silly rhymes! <\/p>\n Numeracy and Maths We will explore months of the year through our class calendar, birthdays and other events. Having a calendar on display at home and discussing events with the children will help with this concept. Health & Wellbeing<\/u><\/p>\n We will introduce our PATHS programme, exploring our feelings and complementing our friends. The children meet characters who help them understand and talk about their feelings. \nReading books will be sent home later in the term and guidance will be given on how you can help at home.
\nLook out for a sheet of numbers which you can cut out and use at home and a Maths Wall which will have lots of activities for you to try.<\/p>\n<\/a> <\/u><\/p>\n<\/a><\/u><\/p>\n
\nLots of listening and talking skills will be developed during the activities above.
\nWe will introduce Talk for Writing and Foundations of Writing. Talk for Writing encourages the children to listen to, learn and re-tell stories. Our first story this term is Mr Wiggle and Mr Waggle. We will explore some non-fiction writing too. Foundations of Writing encourages children to draw themselves and their experiences, adding more and more detail.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/u><\/p>\n
\nWe will explore numbers 0-20 and beyond. Counting, naming, ordinal counting, counting forwards and backwards (starting and stopping at random numbers) clapping and ordering.
\nWe will recognise patterns in numbers, shapes and in our environment.
\nWe will use the terms \u2018more\u2019 and \u2018less\u2019 and be able to estimate amounts.
\nLots of Numeracy and Maths skills will be developed through play.<\/p>\n\n\n
