If your child uses the Nessy programme, they can choose to complete either sentences or the activity and use the remaining time for Nessy. Spelling words will be tested weekly on a Thursday or a Friday.
Numeracy: Your child will receive one piece of numeracy homework a week. This will be given on a Tuesday to be completed by Friday. This homework will reinforce learning that has been taking place in class. Numeracy homework will come in a variety of styles. The most common of which are:
- Written homework to be completed on a worksheet/in a homework jotter
- Time on ‘Sumdog’
- Practise of mental maths skills e.g. times tables
Primary 6/5 will take part in Guided Reading. This consists of 4 reading sessions per week. Throughout the week your child will have supported reading time with the teacher; personal reading time and will take part in a variety of reading activities to further their learning. This aims to allow each child to receive increased personal support with their reading.
Reading books will continue to come home weekly or bi-weekly with details in homework diaries. Please ask your child to tell you about their books and summarise what they have read.
Primary 6/5 will be exploring a range of imaginative and functional writing this block. They will be exploring these genres and learn how to adapt their writing to suit their audience focusing on using a range of VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation) to improve their writing. Primary 6/5 will continue to work towards individual writing targets.
Primary 6/5 will continue to use ‘Jolly Grammar’ for both spelling and reading. They will explore a variety of different spelling patterns and further their understanding of key grammatical concepts.
Numeracy and Mathematics :
During this first block we shall be exploring: Place Value, number processes and money, using a range of approaches and concrete materials. We will be continuing to develop our mental maths skills through a range of activities, including number talks.
It would be beneficial to reinforce this at home.

This will allow the children to have an opportunity to explore their emotions and develop strategies for resolving problems they may face. They will also have the opportunity to be given compliments as Pupil of the Week!
In P.E P6/5 will be focusing on tennis and other rebound games and explore movement through dance.
In this block P6/5 will also be learning about keeping safe and avoiding risks.

Our topic this term is ‘The Solar System’. We will be exploring the wonder of space and children will be given the opportunity to work in small groups for a research project.
We shall continue to revise our French topics throughout this term and build on the knowledge the children have.
Linking with our solar system topic, the children will be working on games coding throughout this block, with a focus on the space race.
