Block 3 Class Information

Teacher(s) :

 Your main teacher is Miss Reid on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mrs Mackenzie will take the class on Fridays.

PE days :
Indoor PE days will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please remember your PE kit and to remove jewellery. 

Important Dates :

Choir performance at Erskine Home: The choir are performing at the Erskine Home Lights Switch on at 6pm on Thursday 6th December.

Christmas Shows: Our Christmas Shows are taking place on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th December. Tickets are currently being issued by the office, following the letter that was sent home.

Panto Trip: We will have our whole school panto trip to the Beacon Theatre on Wednesday 12th December.

Class Party: P5/4 Class Christmas Party will take place on Thursday 13th December. Please feel free to bring a change of clothes to school on this day for the party.

Christmas Jumper Day: This will take place on Friday 14th December to raise money for Save the Children.

Christmas Disco: Our Parent Council Christmas Disco will take place on Thursday 20th December.

Christmas Holidays: The school will close for the Christmas holidays on Friday 21st December and reopen on Monday 7th January.

Homework :

 Reading books are issued on a weekly basis. Your child will receive a book that should be read within the week. Details can be found in Homework Diaries.
Maths homework is allocated on a Tuesday and should be returned, completed by Friday. Maths homework shows what we are learning in class. Any problems with homework, please let us know.  If you are  looking for extra maths homework, pupils have access to ‘Sumdog’ at home.
Spelling homework will be issued on a Monday and should be completed and returned by Thursday. Details of spelling homework will be in homework diaries. Spelling tests will be undertaken on a Friday.

Please sign homework diaries at the end of the week.

Literacy and Modern Languages:

Throughout December we will be finishing our Novel Study, ‘Pugs of the Frozen North. The class have been enjoying the story so far and have been very engaged listening to the book being read to them. They have been creating pieces of writing inspired by characters in the book.

In January we will look at some Scots poetry and the Scots language to celebrate Robert Burns Day.

Reading books will continue to come home weekly, details in homework diaries.

Numeracy and Mathematics :

We have been learning about different strategies to help us add and subtract and we are growing in confidence in using these.

We shall continue to explore money, identifying different coins and notes. Then using money to solve calculations and problems. On Fridays, Primary 5/4 are looking at angles, drawing, measuring and identifying different types of angles. 

Health and Wellbeing :

 We will continue to use our PATHS programme to explore and discuss our feelings We will choose a Pupil of the Week who will receive compliments from their peers and other members of staff.

We are continuing to  use and develop our Growth Mindset.

Throughout our Health and Well being lessons, we will also be learning about keeping safe and our Physical Health and Well being.

Broad General Education :

This block we will be starting our ‘Global Goals’ topic, ‘Life on Land’. As part of our Rights Respecting Education we are looking to explore different Global Goals throughout the whole school.

We are keen to teach our pupils about helping our world and the environment to create a sustainable future for us all.

Mrs McGhee will continue to take the class on Wednesday to explore further Technology topics with the class.

On Fridays with Mrs MacKenzie, pupils will start identifying their Personal Learning Targets to work on to achieve success.

How Can You Help at Home? :

 Please check homework diaries weekly and sign. Look out for any letters that are sent home. Please put names on items of clothing to avoid mix ups. Let us know of any issues/problems/concerns that may arise.
