Block 5 Class Information
Your main teacher is Mrs Druce on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mrs McGhee will take the class on Fridays.
PE days :
Indoor PE days will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please remember your PE kit and to remove jewellery.
Important Dates :
Holidays: We will be off for Easter Weekend on Friday 19th & Monday 22nd April.
We are also on holiday Monday 6th May & Tuesday 7th May, Friday 24th & Monday 27th May.
Maths Games Night: Our Family Maths Games Night will take place on Thursday 2nd May from 7-8pm.
Summer fayre: Our Summer Fayre will take place on Friday 17th May from 5-7pm.
Health Week: Our Health Week will take place week beginning 20th May. This will finish with our Sports Day on Thursday 23rd May.
Summer Disco: The Summer Disco will be held on Thursday 13th June.
End of school year: We close for the Summer Holidays on Friday 28th June.
Personal Projects due Friday 7th June
Reading books are issued on a weekly basis. Your child will receive a book that should be read within the week. Details can be found in Homework Diaries.
Maths homework is allocated on a Tuesday and should be returned, completed by Friday. Maths homework shows what we are learning in class. Any problems with homework, please let us know. If you are looking for extra maths homework, pupils have access to ‘Sumdog’ at home.
Spelling homework will be issued on a Monday and should be completed and returned by Thursday. Details of spelling homework will be in homework diaries. Spelling tests will be undertaken on a Friday. Please sign homework diaries at the end of the week.
Guided Reading – Primary 5/4 will take part in Guided Reading. This consists of 4 reading sessions per week. Throughout the week your child will have supported reading time with the teacher; personal reading time and will take part in a variety of reading activities. They will complete one of these activities per guided reading session. This aims to allow each child to receive increased personal support with their reading.
Reading books will continue to come home weekly, details in homework diaries. Please ask your child to tell you about their books and summarise what they have read.
Writing- Primary 5/4 will be exploring poetry during this block. Following a certain structure they will create their own poems. We shall also be developing our imaginative writing even further across a range of genres.
Grammar/Spelling- Your child is using Jolly Spelling and Jolly Grammar programme. Each week they will focus on a new spelling sound and different aspect of grammar.
Numeracy and Mathematics :
During this final block we shall be exploring ‘Time’, using digital and analogue clocks. We shall be working to tell the time using ‘Minutes Past’ and ‘Minutes To’. We shall explore am and pm times as well as using the 12-hour clock and 24-hour clock. Finally we will look at time durations alongside timetables and calendars.
It would be beneficial to reinforce this at home.
Mrs McGhee will be exploring measure on a Friday. This will involve measuring the length and weight of different items.
Please continue to revise your child’s times tables and division facts on a daily basis to ensure they are confident.
Health and Wellbeing :
We will continue to use our PATHS programme to explore and discuss our feelings We will choose a Pupil of the Week who will receive compliments from their peers and other members of staff.
We shall be exploring substance misuse including the use of drugs and alcohol. Towards the end of the year we shall look at personal development and relationships.
Broad General Education :
Our topic this term is ‘Renfrewshire’. We are keen to teach pupils about the environment where they live. We will be looking at our local landscapes and environment, types of houses, climate and much more.
Mrs McGhee will continue to take the class on Wednesday to explore further Technology topics with the class.
We shall continue to revise our French topics, including numbers, colours, days of the week, months of the year, animals, family and food.
How Can You Help at Home? :
Please check homework diaries weekly and sign. Look out for any letters that are sent home. Please put names on items of clothing to avoid mix ups. Let us know of any issues/problems/concerns that may arise.
