PE days : After the Christmas Holidays our indoor days will go back to our regular Tuesday and Wednesday slots

Important Dates :

Homework :

Your child’s diary will be ticked to indicate what homework they have each week and when it has to be handed in.  Spelling activities are at the front of the spelling homework jotter.

Spelling will be given out on a Monday to be completed for Thursday.  The jotters will be returned marked on Thursday to revise for the spelling test on Friday.

Reading books will be renewed on a Monday, to be read for the Friday.  Please hear your child read aloud and help them to use their reading strategies for any unfamiliar words.  You will continue to see a wider variety of books sent home this year.

Maths homework will be sent home on a Tuesday to be completed for the Friday.  this may be a written sheet, a Sumdog task or an active task.

 Literacy and Modern Languages:

Primary 3 will continue with the Jolly Phonics and Grammar programme.

As reading books are individual this year, comprehension skills will be learned through whole class and group level activities.  Please continue to discuss and ask questions when doing reading at home with your child.

Writing this term will cover a variety of personal, imaginative and poetry writing.

In French we will continue to say and respond to some classroom instructions and greetings and look at the calendar and weather.

Numeracy and Mathematics :

A big part of our numeracy learning this year will be covered through SEAL maths. (Strategies in Early Arithmetical Learning)  These are active strategies taught in groups to support and develop learning in number.

We’ve all been working on addition and subtraction using different strategies and properties of 2D and 3D shapes.  Number work will continue within the context of money.  We will learn about probability, some data handling and symmetry.

Health and Wellbeing :

In PATHS we continue to discuss differnt feelings and how to use our control signals to help us when we have an uncomfortable feelings.  We are moving on to learning about friendships and feeling lonely.

Broad General Education :

December has been very busy with Nativity rehearsals, learning about Scotland through Brave and Rights learning through the Outright campaign about our right to clean air.  In January we will be focusing on a Global Goals topic: Zero Hunger where tasks for our class will include highlighting the school food bank to others and having a class competition for the least food waste at lunch time.

How Can You Help at Home? :

As stated before, please ensure all clothes are labelled to avoid clothes being mixed up in the PE changing rooms as this still happens on occasion.

Please check and sign the diary every week. It would be beneficial if you could hear your child reading aloud every week and ask questions about the reading to check they are understanding as they read.  Remember Sumdog usernames and passwords in to the diaries – this is a great way of improving maths skills using ICT, please don’t wait until it’s a homework task.
