Your child’s diary will be ticked to indicate what homework they have each week and when it has to be handed in.
Spelling homework letters and activities are at the front of the spelling homework jotter. Spelling will be given out on a Monday to be completed for Thursday. The jotters will be returned marked on Thursday to revise for the spelling test on Friday.
Reading books are renewed on a Monday. Although we tick reading every night, I understand that children have various clubs they attend on different evening therefore I would ask if you could hear your child read aloud as frequently as possible. Please encourage them to use their reading strategies for any unfamiliar words. Every child was provided with a new bookmark with the reading strategies again this year.
Maths homework will be sent home on a Tuesday to be completed for the Friday. This may be a written task, a Sumdog task or an active task.
Please note homework tasks may change due to holidays. Please keep checking the diary.
Literacy and Modern Languages:
We have been lucky enough to be selected to have a S6 pupil Emily from Parkmains High School to help implement French learning this block. The children have recapped some simple greetings and will extend their learning in numbers then the calendar. We have looked at colours and Emily has introduced family members in French.
Primary 3 will continue with the Jolly Phonics and Grammar programme.
As reading books are individual this year, comprehension skills will be learned through whole class and group level activities. Please continue to discuss and ask questions when doing reading at home with your child.
So far we have written a poem about ourselves and used pictures to write a short imaginative story with a partner. We will be learning to describe characters and settings in our writing.
Numeracy and Mathematics :
A big part of our numeracy learning this year will be covered through extending SEAL maths (Strategies in Early Arithmetical Learning) from Primary 2. These are active strategies taught in groups to support and develop learning in number.
Maths learning has started with some revision of simple addition and subtraction and calender work. We will be moving on to estimating and rounding and place value of larger numbers.
October- we are learning to add and subtract using regrouping (carrying) and decomposition (borrowing) as well as building on our mental maths strategies to complete these calculations.
Health and Wellbeing :
We will continue with our PATHS programme where we will discuss different feelings, how they are all okay to have and strategies to cope with different feelings.
We will be completing Growth Mindset learning where children are encouraged to have a positive outlook on any challenges….I can’t do this yet….how can I get better at this are examples of positive thinking. Please ask your child about being a bucket filler rather than a bucket dipper.
Mr Martindale will follow the Renfrewshire P3 programme for PE
Broad General Education :
We are learning about the purpose of the skeleton, the different bones that make up the skeleton and the major organs in our bodies.
Once this Science topic is completed, we will be learning about the Vikings.
How Can You Help at Home? :
Could you please ensure all clothes are labelled to avoid clothes being mixed up in the PE changing rooms and being lost if taken off in the playground.
Please check and sign the diary every week. It would be beneficial if you could hear your child reading aloud every week and ask questions about the reading to check they are understanding as they read. Remember Sumdog usernames and passwords in the diaries – this is a great way of improving maths skills using ICT, please don’t wait until it’s a homework task.
