Welcome to the Primary 7 Class page!
Class Teacher: Mr Davies
We are delighted to have Primary 7 back for their final year at Bargarran Primary. As we all know, this has been an unusual start of term and our school days are currently a little different than usual. Primary 7 have the following daily schedule:
8.50am – School starts
10.20am-10.40am – Break
12.10-12.50pm – Lunch
2.50pm – Home time
Initially this term we will have a significantly greater focus on Health and Wellbeing, and ensuring that all our learners are looking after their emotional wellbeing as well as physical.
Handwashing takes place regularly throughout the day, and in particular before and after break and lunch times, on arrival to the school and at the end of the day. Hand sanitizing stations are also used at school doors.
Below is a current overview of what the class is covering this term.
Primary 7 have been focusing on Number Processes this term. This includes some work on Place value, as well as mental and written processes for the four operations. We have also been investigating decimals and how these work within common number methods. Finally ,we have been looking at estimating and rounding.
The class have three Guided Reading slots a week, where they will either read with the teacher or undertake a variety of different tasks. Each child is given feedback on their reading and regular learner conversations about their reading take place during this time.
Our Writing slot is on a Thursday this year. The class have been undertaking a variety of imaginative tasks linked to genre, characterisation and setting.
Spelling and Grammar
Pupils undertake a weekly Spelling task which covers SACAWAC tasks, super sentences and active spelling tasks. The children are encouraged to undertake personal spelling quizzes within the class. Grammar work is done weekly and is done from the Jolly Grammar 5 textbook.
The children have been assigned ZPD ranges for their Accelerated Reading, which gives them an accurate reading range for their reading and comprehension skills. The class get a slot most days during the week to undertake this.
We are investigating the History of Sport, and the children are working in pairs on Powerpoint presentations on a sport of their choice.
Extra support for learning at home is always appreciated. Whether it be mental maths sums, reading at home or extra spelling practice, enhancing learning at home is always beneficial!
