A huge ‘Thankyou’ to all those who contributed and attended the first Johnstone High Expressive Arts event yesterday. Pupils from S2-S6, including some from our partner schools across the authority, were given access to first-hand, expert knowledge and experience from former pupils and professionals who are either studying in or working in the Expressive Arts field. Contributors ranged from the Royal Scottish Conservatoire to the Glasgow School of Art. The aim of the day was to give our pupils insight into what is available in terms of further study and employability within the arts beyond their secondary education. The 17 contributors came with a wide range of knowledge and in depth information which will hopefully give our pupils more choices and directions to ponder.
If you were one of the pupils who had their artwork remarked from the 2016 SQA presentation and you paid for the work to be returned, it is now ready to be collected from the Art Department.
Many congratulations to S1 pupil Dylan Busby. Dylan received a ‘Highly Commended’ award from the Royal Scottish Academy schools competition. I have attached a copy of his award as well as his collaged landscape study.
Mr Sheppard’s 3rd year pupils have been working on an expressive self portrait unit which has introduced them to the work of Jenny Saville, Ryan Hewett, Patrick Bremer and Guy Denning. They have been learning amongst other things, how to use palette knives and different consistencies of paint to create interesting textures and effects.
Congratulations to Johnstone High. Our very talented pupils were successfully chosen to exhibit work at the Paisley Museum and Art Gallery on 27th January for the INSPIRED exhibition 2017. The pupils enjoyed some light refreshments at the exhibition and had the opportunity to view their work displayed at the show. The pupils were accompanied by Mrs McHendry from the Art department and Head Teacher, Mrs Hollywood.
The pupils who have work on display are:
Shona Cairns, Ceira McKellar, Tia Hunter, Megan Cook, Iris Dickie, Adam Dolan, Euan Taylor, Sarah Henderson, Melissa Lynch, Jenna Fraser, Leah Brown, Rhona Carmichael and Bruno Cameron.
Congratulations to the following pupils who were successful in having work selected for 2017’s ‘Inspired’ exhibition at Paisley Museum and Art Galleries:
Sarah Henderson, Megan Cook, Shona Cairns, Tamara Payne, Ceira McKellar, Rhona Carmichael, Adam Dolan, Jenna Fraser, Melissa Lynch, Leah Brown, Euan Taylor, Tia Hunter, Iris Dickie and Bruno Cameron.
The pupils will attend an opening preview of the exhibition on Friday the 27th of January.
Mr Sheppard’s 2P1 left their work in their folders this morning in favour of a chance to capture Ben Lomond in all its icy majesty. The pupils worked from the elevated view of the Art department and spent a period capturing the clear, bright light and atmosphere that the frosty conditions brought to the landscape. Each pupil interpreted the scene differently. Below are some examples of their work.
From the top:
Adam Mason, Devlin McGhee, Kirsten Jenkins, Mark Johnstone and Mirrin Horn
If you would like the chance to have a piece of your art work immortalised forever in etched metal in the Johnstone High War Memorial, please see Mr Sheppard as soon as possible.
Mr Sheppard is looking for images around the theme of remembrance and these can feature any aspect of it from WW1 to the present day. He would like to have all year groups in the school represented within the memorial and is looking for 16 pieces of work.
Below are a few examples from 3rd year that have been produced already.
The exam art work sent to the SQA before the summer is now back in the building. If you paid to have your work returned, please speak to your teacher from last year about collecting it. We would like to keep one or two examples for a short while to photograph for displays.
If your work was submitted for remarking, remember the SQA will hang on to it for a whole year before returning it to the school.
