Base 4<\/strong><\/p>\n

Base 4 have had a busy year learning all about the UNCRC and exploring different articles each week as we expand our knowledge on what each article means and why they are all important. We have looked at the key terms and developed our understanding of them \u2013 inalienable, inherent, indivisible, duty bearers, universal and unconditional \u2013 and recognised why they are key to children\u2019s rights alongside how duty bearers ensure that children\u2019s rights are put into practice every day within Arkleston. In exploring the role of duty bearers, we created our own \u2018trusted 5\u2019 hand to consolidate our learning and understanding surrounding duty bearers having the responsibility to ensure children\u2019s rights are protected, fulfilled, and respected.<\/p>\n

We have been ensuring we show respect for those around us and their rights, linking it to our topic of building and maintaining friendships. We have been focussing on learning about the different articles in the UNCRC and the importance of each one and ensuring we all show respect for each other\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

Base 4 have been exploring different religions and learning about their beliefs and cultures. We have been linking this to Article 14 and the importance of respecting one another\u2019s religions and that every child has the right to have their own ideas, thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. In doing so, we have researched different religions including Christianity and Islam and compared the different beliefs and places of worship. We enjoyed visiting the local church to expand our knowledge about different religions and the importance of respecting other\u2019s beliefs as we link this to article 14.<\/p>\n

Each week we have studied a new article and linked them to events throughout the year including World Book Day and the importance of Articles 17, 29 & 31. This allowed us to develop our understanding of why reading supports these articles and is an important skill we are continuing to develop throughout our education. Many books in our classroom libraries reflect a diverse range of people and communities through their characters and stories and link to different articles in the UNCRC. Reading is allowing us our right to relax alongside links to our right to education and access to information. Such lessons led us into creating our own libraries that reflect a diverse range of books and ensure we fulfil our right to education, relaxation, and access to information. As we continue our journey in Base 4, we will continue to enjoy developing our knowledge and understanding of children\u2019s rights. We recognise that every right is equally important and that it is important to educate others about the UNCRC and share our learning.<\/p>\n
