We have been very busy in Primary 5 learning about rights. We looked at the key terms related to the language around rights and thought about how we would present these definitions in picture format. Have a look at our representations. We will share these with P1 and our Parent Council over the coming months. 😊
Last month we looked at our right to an identity and in relation to gender equality. We explored the idea that toys on shelves are sometimes advertised towards a specific gender and how this should change. Primary 5 & 5/4 designed their own toys and campaigned their gender-neutral use.
We have also been looking at article 14 and the right to your own religion and beliefs. Holi is an important Hindu festival and we compared this with Spring celebrations in other religions. Colours are a big focus as part of this festival and so we presented them and their symbolic meaning in a diagram of our choice. We even added our own colours connected to symbolic character strengths.
We have spent a lot of time learning about the journeys of refugees last term and the challenges they are faced with. Primary 5 looked at needs and wants, considering what refugees would need as part of their new lives. Claire Bury from the Refuweegee charity came in to speak to us about all the amazing work they do to support Refugees in Scotland. We made welcome packs to give to the families and sharing a little around our Scottish heritage.
