Why does the world fight for life?
\nwhen while fighting,
\nwe destroy it.<\/p>\n
Who decided
\nthat flowers grow on grass,
\nand not stone?<\/p>\n
Who is this beast before me?
\nwhy does it gallop in slow motion?<\/p>\n
Who is this sliver of black and yellow?
\nwhy does it wallow in such glory of death?<\/p>\n
Now this beast,
\nthis slow moving giraffe, I mean
\nnow she glides over dry fields in the Savanna.<\/p>\n
Now this sliver,
\nthis beautiful glint of colours in the grass,
\nthis snake I mean.<\/p>\n
How does it shine like that?
\nwhy does it attack like this?<\/p>\n
I don’t know how,
\nthis black and yellow beauty
\ninspires me.<\/p>\n
I don’t know why,
\nthis beast makes
\nme want to sing.<\/p>\n
I do know how to see this great beast,
\nthis sliver of black and yellow.<\/p>\n
How to hear how they speak,
\nhow to listen to the short sharp breaths.<\/p>\n
Tell me how,
\ndoes the snake listen,
\nhow does it feel its prey.<\/p>\n
Tell me how,
\ndoes the giraffe taste the breeze,
\nhow does it smell the clouds,
\nby merely lifting its head.<\/p>\n
I ask you this,
\nin the form of a poem,
\nbecause,
\nI have nobody else to ask.<\/p>\n
