Why did the universe start?
why did the galaxy form?
why did our solar system happen?
why was earth created?
who gave life to this dog?
this dog I mean –
the one who is sleeping next to me
the one who snatched a treat from my hand earlier in the day
now he wakes looking around, dazed and tired
now he walks to his bowl and licks the plain dry kibble
now he gazes at me hopefully for something more tasty
I don’t know how people can abandon their dogs to fend of for themselves
I do know how to take care of a pet unlike some others
Tell me though, what right do we have to be significant in this unmeasurable space above our heads
