Mrs Johnstone will continue to teach pupils music and Mr Graham will continue to teach PE.
A little reminder: Could all children please ensure that they have a
t-shirt, shorts and gym shoes (not trainers) for every P.E. session.
Maths:
Fractions: We will be learning equivalent fractions and work on simplifying larger fractions.
Money: We will be learning how we can use money in everyday life and we will explore the value of money. When doing money we will continue to use and improve our skills addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Time: We will be exploring calendars and their importance in our lives. We will be working on reading digital and analogue times.
Coordinates and scale: We will be learning how to use simple coordinates to find places on maps and also learn about the importance of scales and maps.
Area and perimeter: We will be learning how to calculate the area and perimeter of basic shapes.
Language:
Reading – In class we will continue to work on answering a range of questions about a text.
– We will continue to work on improving our comprehension skills through a variety of activities and practice taking and using notes.
Writing – Children will continue to work on building up spelling strategies.
– Children will work on using notes to produce an information leaflet
– Children will learn how to write to convey information i.e. letters, newspaper articles and scripts.
Listening and Talking – Children will have to listen to/watch short clips and record notes to use for a purpose.
– Children will work on presenting information after group tasks.
– Children will learn and present a Scots Poem
Topic:
Our topic this term is Mary Queen of Scots/Stewart Kings. We will be exploring her life and the key events of the 1500’s to see the effects that they have had on Scotland.
We will also be learning how to use timelines, historical objects and briefly look at the key events in Scottish history.
Later in the term we will be doing a literacy topic and this will transfer the skills we have learnt through our historical topic.
Achievement Jotters:
Just a little reminder that children are welcome to bring things they have achieved out of school into school to put into their achievement jotters.
Art – We are learning about how we can combine proportions, pattern, colour and detail as well as investigating the work of some medieval artists.
Drama and ICT – We will be learning how to use mime, expression and script to make a short drama presentations.
Health:
This term our Bounceback topic is: No Bullying
We will also be exploring religious tolerance and what makes a nutritious diet and revise water safety.
Homework… Pupils will continue to have reading, spelling and maths homework every week. New homework will be handed out on a Friday and taken in the following Friday.
