P1/2 had a lovely time making witches hats for Halloween. We used ice-cream cones, Jaffa cakes and melted chocolate. We sprinkled some spooky magic on them. Yum yum!
Later in the week it was the school disco. We were all dressed up and looked fabulous. After all the dancing we had a well earned rest with some juice and crisps.
On the last day for the October holidays P1/2 had a trip to Blairgowrie Library. We put all our previous learning about road safety into practise. When we arrived Craig read us some stories and we had an opportunity to look around at the books, before heading back to school.
P1/2, P2D and P2S was very lucky as a fire engine visited school. All three classes were learning about fire safety. The children got to try on some of the clothes, sit in the fire engine and use the hose. Think we can all agree spraying water was very exciting. Once we were back to class we got busy doing fire safety jobs.
P1/2 have been learning about how to keep safe in an emergency. P1 focussed on spotting dangers and dealing with a conscious casualty. P2 on the other hand looked at an unconscious casualty and was able to describe someone was unconscious. The whole class enjoyed putting each other into the recovery position.
“Stick Man is floating. He floats on and on. Stick Man, oh Stick Man, beware of the swan!”
P1/2 have been learning about sinking and floating just like the Stick Man. We had a box of different things and we had guess if the things would sink or float. We recorded our results on our answer sheet in our co-operative learning groups.
P1/2 today tasted some French cuisine. We tried some French baguette, croissant, Brie, garlic sausage, Boursin cheese, pâté, crêpes and pain du chocolat. We also was learning to use the phrase, ‘merci’ when taking a piece from the helpers. Some children was super brave and tasted everything. The chocolate crêpes was a huge hit and the smelly cheese not so much. We tried to use our different senses when we were tasting. Well done P1/2!
P1/2 have been learning to work cooperatively together. Today we read the story ‘Elmer’ by David McKee. We had had to work together to create our very own Elmer by cutting and sticking different coloured paper. The children had to share the glue and scissors and be able to take turns. We decided to name our groups after superheroes.
Well done P1/2 super work!! 🙂 Monster points (Class Dojo) for everyone. 🙂
On Tuesday 20th Sept P1-3 from Newhill PS, Rattray PS, St.Stephens PS and Kirkmichael PS all came together to listen to a talk from the author Simon Puttock. The children had really good questions and got to listen to the story ‘The Baby that Roared’.
P1 was learning their ‘t’ sound. P2 kindly offered to help so we decided that we would bring in our teddy bears into class. We all enjoyed having some juice and biscuits. We all introduced our bears to each other during ‘show and tell’.
P1/2 have been learning about road safety. We first have to THINK and find a safe place to cross. We then STOP with our feet on the pavement. Using our EYES and EARS and look and listen for any cars coming. WAIT until all the cars have passed. LOOK and LISTEN again for any cars coming and to make sure it is all clear. CROSS the road and don’t forget to keep looking and listening as you cross.
