Book Week Scotland 2016:  21st Nov – 25th Nov

The Bookbug P1 Family Bag is produced by Scottish Book Trust in partnership with Education Scotland and the Scottish Government as part of Read, Write, Count. Read, Write, Count is a literacy and numeracy campaign aimed at children in P1 to P3. Both bags are full of brilliant books and goodies for you to share with your child. They are intended for you to explore with your child and developing a love of reading and numeracy together at home. Bags are given to every child in Scotland. They both have activities and ideas to complete with your child at home. Additional information can be found on their websites.

Started the week by reading There’s a Bear in my Chair. Bob the Bear stole Miss Duff’s chair. We wrote stories about how we were going to get Bob off the chair. Some of us where going to use a crane, some wanted to blow Bob up with dynamite and others were a little gentler by asking simply asking nicely. We also started looking at tally marks in mathematics. In our trio groups we sorted out our tub of bears into colours. We did this by using tally marks and we worked together. Once we had practised this we were able to use tally marks around the class room and count different chairs and shapes. Next week we can have a go at putting the information that we gathered into a bar graph. We designed new jumpers for the Mouse in the book and acted the story out in drama.

With the other story we baked cakes like the characters in Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam (P2 book)! We were learning about germs and the importance of washing our hands, measuring ingredients using scales, listening to instructions and we also did a lovely writing job on our fairy cakes!

Phew what a busy week. The children in P1-3 also wore a mini book on their jumpers on the Friday so if anyone asked them about it they could tell them about their favourite book.

A local author Pauline Tait came into the library on Thursday and read her story ‘The Fairy and the Kettle’ to P1/2. The children asked some really good questions.

Mrs Austin from P3 came to join us and she read us a story and finally Craig from the library in Blairgowrie came to give us our book bags and also read us a few lovely stories.

Well done P1/2 you have worked super hard. Keep up the fabulous work!! 🙂
