Minibeasts

Primary 2D and Primary 2S have been learning all about mini beasts. The children have enjoyed taking part in a number of different activities to enhance their learning in this area. Here are some snapshots…

In French the children have been learning the names of different mini beasts as well as labelling their body parts. They have also made a pictogram representing their favourite mini beasts with Mrs Barchas Buchan.

Exploring mini beasts through ICT P2S

We have been using BlackCat Painter to draw symmetrical pictures of butterflies!

P2D have been enjoying a block of gymnastics. We have been learning a variety of different jumps, balances and rolls and performed these in a sequence with a partner.

P2S have enjoyed a block on ball skills. We have been practising throwing and catching with a partner.

We all enjoyed a football taster session with the SFA where we learned how to control a football. We had great fun!

P1/2, P2D and P2S- Clinical Psychologist – 25th November

Chloe’s mum came in to school this morning to tell us about her job as a Clinical Psychologist. She explained to us about how she helps people if they are sad. Everyone can get sad but sometimes people find it hard to cope with this. A technique that she tells her patients is that if you are worried about something you should write this inside a paper aeroplane and throw it away. Just like your trouble.

P1/2 Book Week Scotland 2016: 21st Nov – 25th Nov

Book Week Scotland 2016:  21st Nov – 25th Nov

This week P1/2 have been working hard on two books in class this week! One book from the P1 Bookbug (There’s a Bear in my Chair) and the other from P2 Read, Write and Count bag (Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam).

The Bookbug P1 Family Bag is produced by Scottish Book Trust in partnership with Education Scotland and the Scottish Government as part of Read, Write, Count. Read, Write, Count is a literacy and numeracy campaign aimed at children in P1 to P3. Both bags are full of brilliant books and goodies for you to share with your child. They are intended for you to explore with your child and developing a love of reading and numeracy together at home. Bags are given to every child in Scotland. They both have activities and ideas to complete with your child at home. Additional information can be found on their websites.

Started the week by reading There’s a Bear in my Chair. Bob the Bear stole Miss Duff’s chair. We wrote stories about how we were going to get Bob off the chair. Some of us where going to use a crane, some wanted to blow Bob up with dynamite and others were a little gentler by asking simply asking nicely. We also started looking at tally marks in mathematics. In our trio groups we sorted out our tub of bears into colours. We did this by using tally marks and we worked together. Once we had practised this we were able to use tally marks around the class room and count different chairs and shapes. Next week we can have a go at putting the information that we gathered into a bar graph. We designed new jumpers for the Mouse in the book and acted the story out in drama.

With the other story we baked cakes like the characters in Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam (P2 book)! We were learning about germs and the importance of washing our hands, measuring ingredients using scales, listening to instructions and we also did a lovely writing job on our fairy cakes!

Phew what a busy week. The children in P1-3 also wore a mini book on their jumpers on the Friday so if anyone asked them about it they could tell them about their favourite book.

A local author Pauline Tait came into the library on Thursday and read her story ‘The Fairy and the Kettle’ to P1/2. The children asked some really good questions.

Mrs Austin from P3 came to join us and she read us a story and finally Craig from the library in Blairgowrie came to give us our book bags and also read us a few lovely stories.

Well done P1/2 you have worked super hard. Keep up the fabulous work!! 🙂

P1/2 and P2D Physiotherapist Visit – 16th November

This afternoon Euan’s mum came to talk to us about her job. She works as a Physiotherapist at Ninewells Hospital. She also brought her friend in Fred. Unfortunately, he didn’t have much to say.

She talked about our skeleton and what it does including protecting our important organs such as our brain, heart and lungs. We were also able to feel down our own backs and felt our spine. The children used ‘wow’ words (adjectives) like… “bumpy” and “long”!

P1/2, P1G and P1M – Lifeguard Visit – 15th November

Craig from the Recessional Centre, Blairgowrie came to visit P1/2, P1G and P1M. He talked about what it was like to be a lifeguard. Craig also teaches children to swim. He brought some of the equipment that he might use to help. The equipment mostly helps people if they are in a little trouble whilst in the water. Sometimes Craig gets a little wet if he has to jump into the pool and save someone.  Craig also told us about the rules what we must follow whilst in the pool.

  1. We must always have a lifeguard on duty if people are in the pool.
  2. We are not allowed to run around the pool.
  3. We are not allowed to eat and drink next to the pool.
  4. We must always dive at the deep end only.

P1/2, P2D and P2S – Doctor Visit – 10th November

Harrison’s mum came to visit school this week. She works as a doctor and was able to tell us all the things that she did in her job. She also had some equipment in her bag to show us. Things to check inside our ears, eyes and mouth. She had a stethoscope so she could listen to our hearts. She brought spare ones so we all could listen to each other.
