P1D and their families had an opportunity to have lunch together in the dining centre. On the menu was:

Blue: Breaded Fish 

Green: Vegetable Omelette 

Yellow: Tuna Mayonnaise Sandwich

Welcome to P1! What a busy first day in school. As you can see we are taking the time to explore the classroom and make new friends with our P7 buddies.

P1 have been looking after Painted Lady Caterpillars for the past couple of weeks. We watched them grow as caterpillars and eventually turn into beautiful butterflies.

Suzie from RHET came to visit us as part of our ‘Spring’ topic. Suzie explained the lifecycle and what they needed to get big and strong. Sometimes the lambs need some help when they’re born. We even got to feed the lamb some milk.

In association with RHET (Royal Highland Education Trust) John came along to talk to both classes about growing potatoes. We learnt about the different varieties of potatoes and all the different things that you could do with a potato. John showed us what happens at each stage of the growing and harvesting process.

P1 have been learning about Pancake Day. It is also known as Shrove Tuesday, is the feast day immediately before Ash Wednesday which marks the start of the 40 days of Lent that lead up to Easter. This was definitely one of our tastiest RME lessons. 😋

This week the whole school was learning about our right to a good quality education. Each class had a different area to focus on. P1 decided that we would take pictures with the iPad of all the things that we thought gave us a good quality education. We are very lucky in our school with lovely books, computers and a lovely playground. We made a very large poster for John Swinney, Deputy First Minister if Scotland. We gave our poster at our assembly at the end of the week so we could share our learning with the whole school.

As part of our ‘Hot and Cold’ topic P1 had to use their investigative skills and try and free the penguin from his block of ice. Some children used a blanket, paper towels and some their hands. Eventually we figured out that using warm water will release the penguin very fast. Well done P1 for using a growth mindset and not giving up! 👍🏻

P1 enjoyed their Christmas party! We danced, played party games and had enough time for some juice and crisps!

As snow fell on Blairgowrie P1 couldn’t believe it so we put on our coats and had a look. As part of our topic we were able to see the patterns of the snowflakes and see how each one is very different.
