Main Hall Refurbishment

The main school hall is being refurbished. Although the work was started during the school holidays it will not be complete until the middle of December.

The implications of this are:

  • We will have large containers in the playground until the work is complete.
  • Packed lunches will now be accommodated as follows: P1,2 and TR1 in the music room and P3-7 in the gym hall.
  • Mr Fair, Schoo Crossing Patrol Officer, will be at the school at lunchtimes to ensure the safety of the children crossing from the Gym Annexe to the main school. There will therefore be no crossing officer at Union street at lunchtimes.
  • Workmen will be accessing the school throughout the day. Therefore no children should be entering the playgrounds through the car park. Risk assessments have been carried out to ensure the safety of our children.
  • Please do not use the staff acr park.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. I have been told tha hall will be fantastic once it is completed.

Yours sincerely

M R Cameron

The primary 7 class have all returned safely after spending a fun filled educational visit to York. The school teamed up with Rattray & Kirkmichael primary 7s. On Monday the children and staff were picked up from the school and headed down through the boarders and spent the afternoon at Beamish, a living museum of early Britain.

Tuesday took the children into the city of York where they visited the Minster and shopped in the Shambles. After making some purchases they had a cruise on the ouse, followed by a Ghostwalk. In the afternoon the children visited the Jorvik centre where they learned about the Vikings.

On Wednesday the children visited Eden Camp Prisoner of War Camp, where they learned about World War 2. The group then returned to Scarborough to visit the Sea Life Centre and a trip to the beach. The class participated in a sandcastle competition which was then judged by the staff.

The class spent the day at Flamingo Land on Thursday. The all had a great time and didn’t want to come away from the rides. We also visited the zoo where the children learnt about various different animals and habitats.

The children and staff all had a great time on their trip away. They will all be glad to get back to school on Monday.

Commonwealth Event

On Friday 2nd May the school children were treated to Commonwealth day. Each class participated in various sporting activities including, Ryder Cup target golf, Cycling, Mini Gym, Inflatable bungee and an obstical course. The children and staff also performed various cultural songs and dances from around the Commonwealth to their parents and guests. We were also treated to a barbecue lunch served by Tayside Contracts. Councillor Allan Grant opened the Commonwealth event and Dot Brighouse officially opened the Commonwealth Playground.  The day was enjoyed by pupils and staff and we are looking forward to learning more about the Commonwealth and the Games over the coming weeks.

Eco VG

Our Eco topics this year are Litter, Transport and Sustaining Our World. The Eco Group have been looking at the effects of litter on the environment and the dangers to animals. The group has discussed the best ways to travel and the positive and negative aspects of each mode of transport. We are also encouraging children to walk to school.

The Eco group are currently working with ESCA to look at climate change and what we can do to help out planet.
