Committee Update

The Rights Respecting Committee is headed up by Miss Gibson. This term the Rights Respecting Committee have been looking at the rights of children in school. They have also looked at the difference between “needs” and “wants” by playing a game where they had to decide what 3 items they would take to a treasure island – Miss Gibson encouraged them not to take anything they did not actually need. The next item that they will look at is rights of people in different countries. The committee members are looking forward to preparing an assembly for the whole school to listen to. The children in this committee like it because they find it interesting and they enjoy working with different children.

What’s Happening?

Mr Robertson and Mrs Bicocchi are leading this committee. During committee times the older pupils are responsible for looking after the younger ones. The main job is to promote rights and responsibilities and create a positive ethos in the school through understanding of our rights and responsibilities. We have worked on the differences and similarities between needs and wants. We want to involve the parents in our work. Soon we would like every class to have its own charter of rights and responsibilities.
