Tesco Football Challenge @ McDiarmid Park

Yesterday Primary 2 travelled to McDiarmid Park to play football on the pitch with the under 21 squad.

Alex – ‘We had a ball and we had to try and kick it in the hole to get points.’

Emelia – ‘We had a race at the end with all the schools lined up for a photo.’

Archie – ‘We had to do all different challenges and races.  We played a football match against the girls and we won 5-0.’

Luke – ‘At the end, one of the coaches picked a school out and they got to go to Hampden Park.’

Sami – ‘They had lunch in the stadium.’

Olly – ‘We saw a football mascot and he was dressed as a football and we called him Mr Football.’

Alex – ‘We saw a man called Josh and we had to do 2 races.  You had to go round the cones with a ball and the boys won and I was really good going round the orange cones.’

Ellie – ‘We ran up to a cone and back and the whole team did it and then we ran to the 2nd cone and the whole team did it and then we ran to the 3rd cone and the whole team, did it.’

Earth Day

On our first week back at school, we joined boys and girls from around the world in the celebration of Earth Day.  This is a blog about what we learned and what we did.

Archie – ‘We made the word ‘Earth’ using objects from around the garden.’

Sami – ‘We made people from around the world.  We copied different clothes and their skin colour.’

Alex – ‘We made a planet Earth and we put the people around Planet Earth.’

Hazel – ‘We made sure we picked up our litter.’

Sami – ‘We did an Earth Day treasure hunt.  We painted our hand onto a world too.’

Callum – ‘We made an Earth and our hand was in the middle.  We put dots of green paint for land and then we put it on a black piece of paper.  Then we wrote about what we will do and what we wont do.  Then we put it on the wall.’

Nell – ‘We might write we would grow some flowers and not pick all the flowers.’

Ellie – ‘We watched a little video about people from around the world.’

Goodbye Tegan

Logan – I miss Tegan because she is a really nice friend to each and everyone of us.

Sophia – I miss Tegan because she is my best friend.

Luke – Tegan was a very nice friend to play with.

Emelia – Tegan was always sweet to us.

Hazel – Tegan was a very nice friend to us.

Eve – Tegan was a nice friend because she liked everybody and she was a friend to everybody.

Archie – Tegan was very nice to everybody because she always said nice words to them.

Ellie – I miss Tegan because she was the one that made the school so friendly.

Charlie – I miss Tegan because she was my best friend.

Sami – Tegan was a very lovely friend to play with.

Max – We dressed up in our kilts.

Our Trip to The Discovery

As part of our learning about explorers, we visited Discovery Point.

We met the people at Discovery and they told us Stewart would take us on the ship and show us around. – Archie

He gave us a tour of the ship. – Sami

We saw spinney chairs – Eve.

We saw bedrooms – Callum.

We saw ankle bashers which are for letting light in – Logan.

We pretend people like a cook and a coalman and a cat – Max.

There was a man playing games and he cheated because he had a card up his sleeve – Emelia.

We saw the ship’s bell – Sami.

And the steering wheel – Max.

We saw the sick bay – Luke – You could catch frostbite in the cold.

And scurvy – Logan.

After the ship we tried on some clothes that you would wear on an expedition – Tegan.

Some of them were old and some of them were new – Charlie.

Well done to our Scots Poetry Winners

Congratulations to our Scots poetry finalists who performed their poems to the class.  Mrs Duffy and Mrs Styles chose the 3 best readers to go through to the final.  Mrs Carruthers and Mrs MacPherson chose the final winners.  Archie and Tegan will perform their poem at the Village Hall Showcase afternoon.  Good Luck!

Our visit to RSGS

Last week we visited the RSGS in Perth.  There we met a real live explorer and our photo has been in the newspaper!  We learned lots about his travels and here are some of the things he told us and showed us.

Emelia – He takes special food when he is exploring.  You need to add water to it.  It is not as heavy to carry.

Logan – You take a sleigh to the artic instead of a bag so you can get more on it.

Olly – He showed us a polar bear claw that he wears round his neck as a necklace.

Sami – Killer whales are actually dolphins.

Nell – He had seal teeth with him.

Alex – In cold lands you get white seals.

Eve – Killer whales are gentle and he rode on them.

Charlie – You need to be good at eating chocolate.

Sophia – He went to the North Pole and he is going to Greenland with his new coat and some children.

Archie – Elephant seals batter each other.

Callum – Animals in the North Pole and South pole are very smelly.

We also spent some time with Rachel, the education officer.  Here is what we did and learned.

Tegan – We looked at maps.

Max – We were spotting Scotland and places that we had been on holiday.

Luke – We sorted out what items we would need on an expedition.

Ellie – I was in the hot country group.  We chose a mosquito net, sun cream and water.

Famous Scots – our new topic

We are beginning a new whole school topic on Scotland.  In P1/2 we are learning about famous Scottish explorers and inventors.  Here is what we know already about Scotland.

Logan – Some Scottish people wear tartan.

Luke – The thistle is the Scottish flower.

Sami – In Scotland there are Highland cows

Archie – There are lots of rivers in Scotland

Eve – Scottish people do Scottish dancing

Hazel – People in Scotland enjoy shortbread

Max – In Scotland people play football and rugby

Callum – Nessie lives in a loch near Urquhart Castle

Ellie – The Commonwealth Games were in Scotland this summer

Sophia – The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh

Tegan – People in Scotland wear kilts

Alex – A Scottish dog is a Westie

Emelia – In Scotland some people eat haggis

Nell – There are lots of mountains in Scotland

Sarah – The fishing on the River Tay starts today – 15th January.

We have enjoyed bringing in some Scottish things from home to share at Show and Tell. Here are some photos of them!

Our gift to CATH House

Nell – We have made stars with our buddies.  These are for hanging up.

Logan – We have made a Christmas cake with Ms Lyttle, our school cook.  We had to decorate it.  It has stars, a Christmas tree and snowflakes.

Alex – We put marzipan on the cake too.

Eve – We made party hats.  We had to decorate them with drawings of Christmas things.

Sami – We made Christmas pudding with Lindsay.

Ellie – We made Christmas cards.  We made 2 each so everyone could have one.  One of them was a snowman card and the other was a Christmas pudding card.

Hazel – We made paper chains with Lindsay and Mrs Erdelyi. 

Max – We made sweeties.  We cut them into shapes.

Emelia – We bought crackers too.

Sophia – We put all the photos onto paper.

Logan – …to show what we have done.
