P1/2 had great fun experimenting with their sense of smell.
There were some pleasant smells but also some that were not too pleasant to smell!

Floating and Sinking.
In Science we explored how and what items float and sink. We tested different objects in class.
In the forest we learned how to make little rafts and then explored if they would float in the stream beside our forest site……they all did!
Sense of Taste
P1/2 enjoyed exploring different tastes in the classroom.
This included sweet, sour, bitter and salty.
Some pictures showed exactly what it was like to taste!
Forest Science and Measure
P1/2 were learning this week in the forest about their sense of touch and were exploring different textures found in the forest.
In measure they used their body to explore length and also metre strings to measure with metres and half metres.
Science
We have been learning about forces in class.
We tested how far different cars could travel and what affected the distance they could travel such as different surfaces and weight.
In the park we explored what you had to do make the equipment move – either push or pull or both.
Science
This week the children were learning about the Moon orbiting the Earth and how both of these orbit the Sun.Â
The children worked in groups of three and made little head pieces of the Sun, Moon and Earth. They then went out to the playground and practised orbiting around each other.
Minibeast Hunting
This term P1/2 have been doing different minibeast hunts.
This has included looking for different minibeast habitats  in the park and up in the forest where we have been looking under stones, in grass, in trees etc.
The children have also been putting the minibeasts into groups including arachnids, insects, gastropods and athropods.
Finally when hunting for minibeasts the children have been learning their French name too.
P1/2 Visit Dundee Science Centre
On Monday 29th. May, P1/2 visited Dundee Science Centre.
On the way the children learned about the Tay Bridge Disaster and the 3 j’s that Dundee is famous for- jam, jute and journalism.
Once inside they were allowed to explore the different areas. This included a section of a huge head, which they could then slide down!
The children then watched a show all about minibeasts! Here they saw large minibeasts including cockroaches, spiders, snails and millipedes.
After lunch they put on lab coats and carried out a number of experiments related to our senses and  how liquids react with each other.
Next it was back to exploring the Centre. One of the most popular exhibits was the sand pit, where the children made large hills and on these hills an ordnance survey map was projected onto it!

Growing plants
After reading Jack and the Beanstalk, we decided to grow our own beans and are learning what plants need to grow.
We all planted our own bean, but also planted a bean which we are not going to water, one that is not going to have light and one with out soil. We are also going to measure each week how high they have grown and record our findings.
Floating and Sinking
In Science this week, we learned what causes objects to float.
In groups we had to guess if an object would float or sink. We then had to test if we were correct.
We found out some materials floated more than others.
