Science week

Science week was a great success throughout the school.

P1/2 reported about their science experiments:
“ I learned that you can use static electricity to make the balloon stick to Ellie’s hair. It can make a paper ghost dance like it was on Strictly.” (Logan)

“ I learned your bones save your heart and your skeleton helps you walk and move.” (Hazel)

“ I learned that it was made of vinegar and baking soda. It mixed and made carbon dioxide to blow the rubber glove up.” (Archie)

P3/4 particularly enjoyed the visit from Brian of “Party Animals” . He had lots of animals with him including snakes, lizards, tarantulas. Mia and Harry reported: “Brian brought two pythons, two lizards and two tarantulas.  When Bella the Python hangs on a tree near cave and the bats come out she goes SNAP! One of the lizards would bite your fingers and its claws are sharp. One of the tarantulas gives venom when it bites. The bite hurts like a bee sting. The other one spikes out its hair.”

P5/6/7  particularly enjoyed the visit from Angela Heidmann to teach everyone in the school how to make bath bombs.

Archie reports: “ Bath bombs have chemicals that cause a chemical reaction and it fizzes away. From other experiments in the week  we learned that PVA glue and

Boric acid create a slimy substance that you can play with. Also creating yogurt needs milk and the good bacteria in shop yogurt turns the bad bacteria in the milk good.”

Show in a day

P5/6/7 went off to Perth Concert recently to take part in theCommonwealth Song Day. They had researched and produced a presentation about their chosen Commonwealth country – Sri Lanka – and with the others schools practiced songs and this was all put together  in the afternoon as a Commonwealth games ceremony. They were dressed in colours of the Sri Lankan flag . All the adults there had a great time and were impressed with the chidren’s singing
