Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) is transforming learning experiences for children and young
\npeople across Scotland. The range of learning opportunities and the breadth of children\u2019s and
\nyoung people\u2019s achievements is greater than ever before. In recent years there has been a great
\ndeal of very positive improvement work in early learning and childcare, schools and colleges on
\nwhich we can continue to build. Moving forward, the two key priorities for CfE are:
\n\u2022 ensuring the best possible progression in literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing for every
\nchild and young person; and
\n\u2022 closing the attainment gap<\/p>\n
What is Curriculum for Excellence?
\nCurriculum for Excellence will improve education for children
\nand young people by putting learning experiences at the heart
\nof education. Some important changes of emphasis will refresh
\nlearning and teaching. Key factors are:
\n\u2022 The new Curriculum 3\u201318 will ensure continuity in each
\nchild\u2019s learning
\n\u2022 Children are at the centre of teaching and learning
\n\u2022 Literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing will be delivered
\nacross learning and will be the responsibility of all
\n\u2022 Six Curricular Levels or Stages set out the learning
\nprogression clearly for each child from 3 to 18 years
\n\u2022 There are eight Curricular Areas: sciences, languages (English,
\nGaelic, classical and modern languages), mathematics,
\nexpressive arts, social studies, technologies, health and
\nwellbeing, religious and moral education.
\n\u2022 Each Curricular Area contains a series of \u2018Experiences
\nand Outcomes\u2019 which describe children\u2019s learning and
\nachievements from a pupil\u2019s perspective. These take the form
