Today in the eco team we divided in to two groups. The P6/7 ‘s worked on the eco code poster , we all helped to make the poster and then we decorated it . Meanwhile the P3/4’s made a cool collage spelling Eco using pictures . They have put it on the eco board. Go and check it out and tell us what you think.
Eco Code
Today we looked at re-writing our Eco Code. To help us we looked at Eco codes used by other schools. Our code had to include all the things we do to help protect the envirnoment. We worked in small groups to collect all of our ideas and then used Inspiration to record all of our ideas. Have a look at what we have done so far. Next week we will hopefully finish our code and share it with the school.
Dobbies New purchases
Some of the green team are going to Dobbies to buy some new bird stuff for our garden. We hope that we can find a bird bath ,bird feed and bird feeders. James and Chris are sending out a flyer to ask for bird feed.
Bird Feeding
Today we did a survey on the garden We were rewarded some money to spend on eco items for our gardens. We have decided on some bird baths, bird tables and bird feeders.Chris designed a note to send home to ask for bird feed.
Recycling on a very wet day!
Today it is cold and damp at Forgandenny Primary. The Green team have been very busy doing a varierty of jobs.
- Chris created a leaflet to go home on the topic of bird feeding and donations we need
- We decorated our recycling mobile phone box and are collecting for cancer research and Children in Need
- We sorted out stamps for charity again these are going to Children in Need
- We coloured in new recycling logos for our new and improved recycling boxes in school
Planning ahead
We finally have chosen the roles and jobs. Jennifer is the chair person, Kai, Jake, Josh and Euan are all resources manager, Chris as the secretary and is also the blogger with Esther. After a fair vote we decided that our name is not Eco team but is Green team
We are planning to:
- feed the birds
- plant bulbs (ask for donations for this and the above)
- set up a stall at the Christmas (or another event)
- sell: recycled pencils, scrappy pads and maybe eco car stickers
- purchasing a bird bath
Eco on Thursday
This week the eco team are going to do some planning. We’ll also be giving out jobs. It’s been 3 weeks and already we’re making our school more eco friendly! We’re going to need: a chair person, a scribe (someone to take the minutes), some recycling people and a photographer.
Apples, Apples nothing but Apples…and a few tatties
Today the eco group were picking apples in the outdoor stage area. They are not eating apples but are good for feeding horses and making delicious pies or jelly. We also dug up the remaining potatoes and harvested the last of the beans. Mrs Little has our potatoes again and will hopefully work her magic once more! All the eco group have some apples to take home and try.
They are all going to try and take a picture of them cooking or using the apples at home and bring it into school.
Esther – ‘ I didn’t realise how many apples there were just sitting there or falling down from the trees…there were heaps of them and can’t wait to try the pies I am going to make’
Chris – ‘ It was lots of hard work but at last it is done’
Garden upkeep
Today the eco group are going to be working on some of the work required in the school garden. Litter patrols, willow tidy, apple harvest and harvesting the remaining veggies from the garden.
Hopefully we can bag up as many of the cooking apples as possible and have them available to family and friends of the school to take home and use.
If we have time we will also finish our signs from last week and have them displayed around the school.
Creating energy signs
In the eco group today we created signs to place above and below our school light switches. We hope that these signs will help save energy by reminding people to turn of lights when they are not being used. We also talked about our goals for this year. Our number one eco goal is to achieve our 2nd Eco Green Flag with Eco Schools Scotland.
Also last week we tasted our wonderful school veggies and everyone enjoyed them – especially the french beans!
