Eco 2013!

It’s a new year at Fogandenny and a new year of eco and we have a lot of targets this year are:

The recycling area – redo the signs
RSPB Big Bird Watch 2013 – count the birds in our school
Check bird feeders – make sure they are always full in winter
Food Miles – our new topic
Bird Box camera – check on our friends in the bird box
Build the Spare Bird Box – well, build it!
Herb garden – pland some more herbs
Photos – take some and put them on our blog
Litter pick – have a big community litter pick
Blogging – keep it up to date

So those are Forgandenny’s eco goals for 2013 lets hope we manage to do them all.

Holiday Growing

The Green Beans took their courgettes or yellow bean plants home to take care of over the Easter holidays. Some of them have been very successful and their plant have grown its Cotyledon leaves. The Cotyledon leaves are the first leaves that grow from seeds.

RSPB -School Bird Watch

For the past few weeks the Greens Beans have been feeding the birds in preparation for the RSPB School Bird Count. Today was the day and we saw a whole variety of birds in our school playground. Some of the birds we saw were Sparrows, Wood Pigeons and even a Jackdaw. On Tuesday we will be sending our full results to the RSPB so watch this space for more details.

Environmental Review

Today the Green Beans carried out a series of environment reviews on subjects like health and well being, waste minimization, biodiversity, school grounds and energy and many more. These will help us in planning our next steps this year and also in working towards our 2nd Green Flag.

Jennifer – It was a fun activity and made us think about all the things we do in school

Angus – It was sometimes quite confusing because the questions were a bit tricky

Donald – The questions were challenging and it certainly made us think

Amy- Some of the reviews made us think about how good our school really is

Eco 2010/2011 – Our Successes

It has been a very busy year in the Green Team – Here are a few of our successes.

Blogging was one of our biggest successes as you can see!
Our veggies are flourishing considering the fact they were battered by heavy winds.
The garden is beautiful thanks to the parents for all their hard work at weekends. We take our hats off to you!
The birds have stayed around only because of our hard work and your donations. Thanks!
The birds also stay around because of our brand new bird feeders.

Brig in Bloom

Today some of the members of the Green Team went into Bridge of Earn to plant plants for Brig in Bloom! Brig in Bloom is when all the many planters in Bridge of Earn get filled with beautiful flowers.

Our eco code

Today in the eco team we divided in to two groups. The P6/7 ‘s worked on the eco code poster , we all helped to make the poster and then we decorated it . Meanwhile the P3/4’s made a cool collage spelling Eco using pictures . They have put it on the eco board. Go and check it out and tell us what you think.

Recycling on a very wet day!

Today it is cold and damp at Forgandenny Primary. The Green team have been very busy doing a varierty of jobs.

Chris created a leaflet to go home on the topic of bird feeding and donations we need
We decorated our recycling mobile phone box and are collecting for cancer research and Children in Need
We sorted out stamps for charity again these are going to Children in Need
We coloured in new recycling logos for our new and improved recycling boxes in school

Planning ahead

We finally have chosen the roles and jobs. Jennifer is the chair person, Kai, Jake, Josh and Euan are all resources manager, Chris as the secretary and is also the blogger with Esther. After a fair vote we decided that our name is not Eco team but is Green team

We are planning to:

feed the birds
plant bulbs (ask for donations for this and the above)
set up a stall at the Christmas (or another event)
sell: recycled pencils, scrappy pads and maybe eco car stickers
purchasing a bird bath
