For the past few weeks the Greens Beans have been feeding the birds in preparation for the RSPB School Bird Count. Today was the day and we saw a whole variety of birds in our school playground. Some of the birds we saw were Sparrows, Wood Pigeons and even a Jackdaw. On Tuesday we will be sending our full results to the RSPB so watch this space for more details.

Bird Feeders – update Dec 2011
Today Amy and Donald were sent out to collect all the bird feeders to be filled up by some of the others in the group. Lots of children in the school donated some of their bird feed from home for us to put in our bird feeders. We have had lots of generous donations so thank you.
Some of the others in the group were on the computer to try and find some bird food recipes.
Autumn in Forgandenny
Today the Shannah and Amy took some pictures to show our school during Autumn. We hope you like the shots we have taken
Environmental Review
Today the Green Beans carried out a series of environment reviews on subjects like health and well being, waste minimization, biodiversity, school grounds and energy and many more. These will help us in planning our next steps this year and also in working towards our 2nd Green Flag.
Jennifer – It was a fun activity and made us think about all the things we do in school
Angus – It was sometimes quite confusing because the questions were a bit tricky
Donald – The questions were challenging and it certainly made us think
Amy- Some of the reviews made us think about how good our school really is
Tidying the garden
Today the Green Beans managed to pick up two wheelbarrows worth of rotten apples from the school garden today. It was a yucky job and took a lot of effort and hard work! We tidied it up and now it looks a whole lot better. Hopefully the birds will eat the leftovers and the compost heap with enjoy the apples. We think it was a worthwhile job because the garden looks a whole lot better.
Please Switch off!
Today we were making new signs for all the classrooms in the school. The signs ask everyone to make sure they turn off the lights when they leave a classroom if it is empty. Next week we will put them all around the school.
Designing our board!
We were creating new board design and writing our new name as a colleague design.
Our eco song
This week in the green beans we made up a eco song insted of an eco code!
The song goes to the tune of Michael Finnagin it and here it is!!
Our Eco Song
There is an eco group in Forgandenny
Recycling things…O so many
Getting Green Flags is their game
All from Forgandenny, denny, denny, denny
We’re the Green Beans from Forgandenny
Feeding birds….O so many
Planting, Gardening, Feeding, Watering
All from Forgandenny, denny, denny, denny
There were some people who were so naughty
Dropped Litter on the ground making it dirty
The Green Beans picked it up quickly
And popped it in the bin again begin again
Saving wildlife they love to do
Caring for bugs and beasties too
Getting Green Flags is their game
All from Forgandenny, denny, denny, denny
Our New Name
After much discussion the name of our vertical group was decided by a vote. From this moment onwards we will be know as…The Green Beans – here to save the world. Well done everyone for coming up with some amazing ideas. Next week we will get onto planning activities for the year. The 1st being an Eco Lunch!
