All books should be returned or renewed before any holidays. REMEMBER: ALL books and other resources MUST be taken to the desk and checked out before you leave the library.
Return books ON or BEFORE the return date stamped on the date label in the front of the book.
When you return a book you should leave the book in the box on the issue desk or hand it directly to the librarian. Make sure you let the Librarian know you have returned a book. If the Librarian is not available come back later to return the book
DON’T leave it lying on a table – it might get lost.
DON’T put it on the shelving trolley.
DON’T put it back on the shelves.
It must be properly returned or you might find that you will get overdue notices about a book you thought you had returned or you might even have to pay for it.
REMEMBER! TELL THE LIBRARIAN YOU HAVE RETURNED A BOOK.
If you haven’t finished a book by the return date you can ask the Librarian to renew it. She will stamp a new return date on the book. You must bring the book to the library to get it renewed.
If you haven’t returned a book by its RETURN DATE you will get an overdue notice from the Librarian. Your Register Teacher will give it to you. If you get one you should RETURN or RENEW the book IMMEDIATELY (Bring the slip with you when you come to the library).
If you haven’t returned it after the first reminder then you will get two further notices. If you ignore these then a letter will be sent home to your parents.
REMEMBER! To avoid getting overdue notices, return your books on time!
REMEMBER! Tell the Librarian when you have returned a book!
If you lose a book tell the Librarian as soon as possible so that you can arrange to pay for the cost of replacing it. (You will not be charged for books that can be repaired.) Remember that if you haven’t returned a book the Librarian will chase you up so you can’t just ignore the fact it is lost or damaged.
If you paid for a lost book but it was found within TWO months of when you reported it lost then you will get your money back.
You can reserve a book if someone else has it out. Ask the Librarian for a reservation slip and fill it out.
Also, if the book you want is not in the library you can fill out a slip and the Librarian will try to get it for you from The Orkney Library. (See Inter Library Loans)
The Librarian will tell you when the book arrives.
If you wish books and / or other material which is not available in the school library we may be able to obtain them for you. It is recommended that you go to ‘The Orkney Library’ yourself but if you are unable to do so, please speak to Mrs Sinclair who can try and obatain the resources on your behalf.
If the books are not available, then you can apply for an Inter Library Loan, either via the school library or the public library who will request the books from other libraries in the UK.
Please note that there is a fee for this service of £2.50.
