Bag the Bruck, April 2023

On Tuesday 18th April, we took part in Bag the Bruck at Sandgarth beach in Shapinsay. Lots of parents came along to help as well.

We collected 15 bags of rubbish, plus a large quantity of rope.

We also found lots of mermaid’s purses (skate egg cases) which we will be classifying and reporting back to the Shark Trust.

P1 – 3 trip to Maes Howe and Skara Brae

P1 – 3 are comparing life and death in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Orkney. To help find out about life and death in Ancient Orkney, we visited Skara Brae and Maes Howe.

First we went to Maes Howe, which is a bit like the Ancient Egyptian pyramids.

Then we went to Skara Brae, to find out about how people lived in Ancient Orkney.

Strings Day

On Thursday 16th March, we were delighted to host a Strings Day. Many thanks to Miss Procter for organising it, and for the teachers and pupils who came to join us from Papdale and Glaitness schools.

P1 – 3 Ancient Egypt project

P1 – 4 are learning about Ancient Egypt.

We have learned a lot about pyramids.

We learned about Ancient Egyptian beliefs about death and have even made our own tomb, complete with coffin.

We learned about how mummies are made, and are doing an experiment with fruit to find out why the Egyptians used salt to create the mummies.

We researched about the River Nile and wrote non-chronological reports about them.

P3 have chosen a topic about Ancient Egypt to find out more about and they will be giving a talk to the class about that topic.

World Book Day 2023

The Library Committee organised our World Book Day activities on Thursday 2nd March. Everyone dressed up, brought in some books for a book swap, did some book related activities and we had a visit from Sheila Garson to talk about her Shapinsay A-Z book.

Children in Need 2022

Well done everyone!

The Pupil Council sold Children In Need wristbands, badges and rulers. People were invited to wear pyjamas to school and some parents came in to do face painting. Everyone from Nursery to P7 joined in some creative Pudsey challenges and riddles. All together, the school raised a  massive £100!
