Outside sport – football\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although most sports stopped and have only just started up not\u00a0<\/span>long-ago, outdoor\u00a0football\u00a0has been going since the Christmas holidays ended.\u00a0Although some clubs have yet to start, some haven\u2019t stopped apart from during the normal holidays and the time that it wasn\u2019t possible to play due to COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n

There are also some clubs that have only started in the last week or two,\u00a0<\/span>and others are sure to be inviting players back soon as well.<\/p>\n

The Orkney football programme of players going to trials to try and make it into the Orkney squad for their age gr<\/span>oup to compete against other teams from\u00a0down-south such as Caithness and Ross County,\u00a0and also\u00a0play against rivals Shetland, will be going ahead.<\/p>\n

The reason that this<\/span>\u00a0season of Orkney football has not started yet is\u00a0because of the fact that\u00a0some clubs have decide not to because there would be\u00a0mixing between the players, although to rival this fact many of the players will be mixing anyway and things such as other sports, school and meeting up\u00a0in free time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For some of the\u00a0<\/span>players this will be devastating as this will mean missing out on trips\u00a0away\u00a0and other\u00a0opportunities, such as even just playing more football or meeting with other friends\u00a0that they might not otherwise see.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There have been some games between clubs in the secondary<\/span>\u00a0age group and\u00a0there\u00a0are set to be more occurring in the near future.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some people\u00a0<\/span>may think that this going ahead in the current state of the virus may be bad as social distancing is very hard to maintain during the playing of a contact sport\u00a0but others would contradict this with the fact that the football is all being held outdoors in the secondary age group and also that all 34+ year olds and also the vulnerable people in Orkney have at least been offered the vaccine for COVID if not had it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Being back outside with friends and other peers can create a better state of mental health than that of sitting inside and talking to them on a voi<\/span>ce call, and playing sports and running around is good for their physical health on top of that.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The lockdown has been a tough time for everyone\u00a0<\/span>and it is good to see that at least some of the younger\u00a0population\u00a0are getting back to their sports like football.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
