Coronavirus vaccinations rolled out across Orkney\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

As the coronavirus<\/span><\/span>\u00a0pandemic\u00a0continues,\u00a0there is a\u00a0chance things\u00a0will return to\u00a0normal\u00a0soon.\u00a0The\u00a0vaccines are meeting\u00a0their\u00a0targets and Orkney is ahead of the rest of the\u00a0United Kingdom,\u00a0offering vaccines to\u00a0all\u00a0people over the\u00a0age\u00a0of 34.\u00a0The number of cases in Orkney\u00a0remains\u00a0at 74 and the total deaths is 3.<\/p>\n

Many people have been affected by the pandemic\u00a0<\/span><\/span>with one in eight adults (12.9%) developing moderate to\u00a0severe\u00a0depression\u00a0and children suffering with not being able to\u00a0socialize\u00a0and see their friends. Now many pupils have started to return to school.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

People’s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0jobs have been affected by the pandemic.\u00a0My dad who\u00a0is self-employed\u00a0and\u00a0is\u00a0in the\u00a0fire service\u00a0\u201cMy work\u00a0was affected\u00a0because the demand (for\u00a0scallops) has decreased because of lockdown.\u00a0The way we work at the fire station has also changed due to covid-19 restrictions.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

M<\/span><\/span>y\u00a0mum\u00a0said,\u00a0\u201cI have got to spend more time\u00a0with my family in my\u00a0household,\u00a0but I have not been able to see my\u00a0mum\u00a0and my sister.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Orkney the<\/span><\/span>y\u00a0have given\u00a0out\u00a0different\u00a0types of the vaccine.\u00a0My dad who got the AstraZeneca vaccine on the 18th\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of February said he had an achy arm for the rest of the day. My\u00a0mum\u00a0got the Pfizer vaccine on the 21st\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of March and she said she\u00a0had a sore arm\u00a0which felt heavy and was tired. Many people are reacting differently to the vaccine some are\u00a0unaffected,\u00a0but some have been throwing up and not been very\u00a0well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lots of people have different opinions on the vaccine. Some people have said that they trust the vaccine<\/span><\/span>\u00a0because it is a tried and tested process which has been used to create other vaccines. Others also trust the doctors and scientists who are help keeping people safe.<\/p>\n

Others who disagree with the vaccine have come up with many different conspiracy theories but\u00a0<\/span>a lot of people who refuse to get vaccinated say that not enough testing has been done and they think it was rushed through.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The NHS website reassures people that \u201cthe vaccines approved for use in the UK have met strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness set out by the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAny coronavirus vaccine that is approved must go through all the clinical trials and safety checks all other licensed medicines go through. The MHRA follows international standards of safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

If I am offered the vaccine I will definitely accept the offer and go get it because I think, by getting the vaccine, I would be helping others and helping stop this pandemic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
