Feedback<\/strong>:\u00a0 <\/span>What an enthusiastic bunch! I’ve worked in schools before and we had such fun here at Firth. The children got so involved in the music, singing and dancing to the beat. It’s great to see young children inspired by a different type of music too when it’s such a rich culture. To hear how many of them are learning the double bass was unique too – we don’t hear that often!<\/span><\/p>\n

Feedback<\/strong>:\u00a0 <\/span>The children confidently agreed that \u201cWe get all our rights in school,\u201d reflecting that class charters \u201cremind you that you have these rights and to use them.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0The children discussed how positive relationships are encouraged, sharing: \u201c Teachers are kind ,\u201d and \u201c They always make us feel happy to be here.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0The children said they feel safe at school, describing how their actions and those of others contribute to this, including , \u201cWe have protections,\u201d and \u201cWe\u2019re a safe school and they make sure everyone is okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

There is a strong focus on the health and wellbeing of pupils within the context of rights, so they feel supported and nurtured, including through the Emotion Works, Zones of Regulation, and Hi5 Award programmes.<\/div>\n

It’s exciting to see STEM being developed across Orkney, especially overlapping with our local heritage and history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Feedback<\/strong>: <\/span>The maths week open afternoon was a great opportunity to see the learning taking place in my child’s classroom and it gave me the chance to engage with activities alongside my child. It was well organised. I thoroughly enjoy attending any events the school has as I feel it’s a great way to see what my children are doing and I feel involved too. My children are always very happy to have me in the school to show me what they have been working on. Open afternoons and events help build positive relationships between families, pupils, and staff and I feel I have a very positive relationship with the school and my children’s teachers due to attending as much as I can. I would be delighted to attend similar events in the future.<\/p>\n

Feedback<\/strong>:\u00a0 <\/span>The school was extremely welcoming.\u00a0 From our initial planning meeting to our final day of Hi5 completion, the communication and support for the Family Engagement Team (FET) was excellent. Through regular communication with both the teachers and the admin staff, we were able to plan sessions that suited the needs of the school and meshed with the structure of the school day that was already in place.<\/p>\n

The young people themselves were brilliant to work with.\u00a0 They arrived enthusiastic and keen to learn, and of course many knew what they were doing already \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

We hope that your young people enjoyed our sessions. It really was great to see them working together and having fun at the same time. Thanks again for inviting us in and we hope to work with you again in the future.<\/p>\n

P1\/2 visited The Orkney Wireless Museum and Toy Shop as part of their Museum topic. They learned about entertainment in the past and a how radio\/tv changed over time. The children learned about current trends in toys and the most popular toys when they visited Grooves toy shop.<\/span><\/div>\n

I wonder if it would be possible to add your school as a case study on out Plant-Kind resource? This is a showcase of actions schools around the country are taking to help plants and biodiversity. A group of pupils from Firth Primary School in Orkney have been working with the RSPB to improve areas close to their school for pollinators.\u00a0 Wildflower seeds were collected in the autumn, and the children planted them in seed trays.\u00a0 When the plants grow in the spring, they plan to transplant them back into the wild to help strengthen the local wildflower populations.\u00a0 This will ensure that the local population of pollinating insects can thrive, and means that the school’s local area will remain biodiverse.<\/p>\n

Outreach and learning are at the heart of what we do, and visits like yours are invaluable. For a class of 10-year-olds, engaging directly with local history and heritage helps bring the past to life in a way that textbooks alone cannot. It encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a sense of connection to their community.<\/p>\n

Your pupils were a credit to your school. They showed genuine interest in the displays, asked thoughtful questions, and engaged enthusiastically with the stories behind the objects. It was clear they were keen to learn and explore, which made the session even more rewarding.<\/p>\n

Feedback<\/strong>: Thank you again for welcoming us into your schools yesterday. We were very impressed with the behaviour of the students, both in cooperating with each other and politeness. When we discovered a piece was missing from one of the kits, I borrowed one from another team and one of the boys asked me which team so that he could go over and thank them personally. If one of the team members was struggling the other students would boost their morale and assist them without taking over their task. I haven’t experienced this at other schools before and there were many anecdotes like this from both Firth and Evie School when talking to my colleagues. The p7s at both schools engaged well with our careers chat, asking lots of questions. We had staff that had never visited Orkney before and overall this left such a warm positive impression of Orcadians!<\/p>\n
