Our school is at the heart of our community.<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

We use the island, and all of Orkney as a context for teaching and learning.<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

Pupils work with members of the community to learn about, and become involved in, local crafts, skills and concerns.\u00a0 They also work with agencies such as the Eday Partnership<\/a>, and the Eday Community Association who work to promote the island’s development and support islanders’ interests.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are several community-owned ventures, such as the shop and the wind-turbine, which generate income for the community. As with the rest of Orkney, our island has a strong commitment to its environment and to developing and using sustainable energy, and this is reflected in the work of the school, we have our own school wind turbine on site, and our children are encouraged to consider ways they can save energy whilst on the school site, in direct and indirect ways.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are also representatives from Orkney Young Farmers, the Crofting Commission and Orkney Islands Council who live on the island, making our population a diverse and interesting group of people where there is always something to do!<\/p>\n
