So far, “Troot in the Shed 2012” is running smoothly on the island of Stronsay! Apart from 5 casualties on the first day, probably caused by the transport on the plane in a thermos flask, there have only been 2 more casualties. The pupil rota is working well and every day, the tank is checked, dead eggs removed and water and air temperatures recorded. No long before we can see some of the ova “eyeing up”…

I have been enjoying looking after the little eggs and its going really well. Hope to see some little avlevins soon. 🙂
I am looking forward to seeing the eggs hatch and there is a bit of fluff in the tank.
Hi Joanne and Johnny!
Glad to know you’re enjoying looking after our trout eggs. It might be a couple of weeks before we see any hatching but as it depends on the water temperature, they might hatch earlier if the weather warms up. You’re doing a really good job at checking the ova as we haven’t lost any over the last week or so. Well done!

Hi Mr P
The eggs are doing fine.
Me, James and Josie saw some egg foam on Wednesday and James was really excited!
I hope the Alevins survive the cold weather and make it to the Muckle Water
hi just been to check the eggs and you can really see the eyes now
I got fresh water for the tank today, Eyes are showing very well all looks good.
They Are Getting On Really Well here I See!
We are getting on really well at looking after the ova at Stronsay School. Some people say that the eyes are showing really well now.
Thanks for that Johnny! Excellent news! It shouldn’t be long before the alevins start hatching. Watch for the foam on the surface…
Well done for looking after the ova so well!
Mr. P
I think all the ova hatched but apart from that we are getting on really well.
