We all had a fun day today doing lots of exciting activities to help raise money for Children In Need. Some of us got to paint Pudsey, go on a Pudsey hunt, make and eat a Pudsey biscuit, make up a Pudsey dance and rap and use the i-pads to create a stop motion picture. Tomorrow the children will be helping Mr. McMullan to plant some trees around the school grounds. Please send your child to school with a spare set of old clothes and shoes or wellies. They can come dressed in their usual school inform and get changed in class.

Sounds

Group 1 – magic  ‘e-e’ sound (here, theme, complete, Steve etc). Practise reading the  ‘e-e’ words from your sound booklet each night.

Group 2 – Practise reading aloud the 3 letter blends on the both  sides of your sound sheet. Try and time yourself to see how fast you can read the words correctly. Each night you practise see if can you get quicker?

SPELLING

Practise writing these words in your jotter in choo-choo writing. Do 2 rows of each word.

Group 1 – add, about, air.

Group 2 – back, put, as.

Use Sumdog to practise your spelling skills too.

COMMON WORDS – read these words aloud from your word wall or list.

Group 1 – keep, know, last, life, line.

Group 2 – now, new, one, first     PLUS common words from the word wallets.

READING

Read your non-fiction book each night being careful to read the words on the page accurately (don’t add extra words, miss out words or read different words from the ones on the page). Talk about the information that you are reading about. Can you find any of this week’s common words or spelling words in the book?

MATHS

We will be working on odd and even numbers. Even numbers always have a partner. Use small objects like pennies, pasta shapes, lego pieces etc to set out the odd and even numbers like this ;

Can you count the even numbers up and down to 20? Can you do the same for the odd numbers? Can you go all the way up to 100? Can you count the odd numbers up and down to 100? Use your number square to help you.

Try counting up in 3’s, 4,s, 5,s and 10,s, How far can you go? Use your number square to help.

We have been working on our throwing and catching skills in the gym as well as playing fun games. We have also been working hard doing lots of different literacy activities to help us read, write and spell. We are getting really good at ordering numbers to 100.

Design a Fairtrade T-shirt competition

The children should use the t-shirt template to design a fairtrade t-shirt. They could include the following;

  • Make the t-shirt blue, black and green
  • Include the Fairtrade logo
  • Include Fairtrade products
  • Include a Fairtrade slogan

There will be a winner from each house, plus an overall winner, which will get made into an actual t shirt to be worn at Fairtrade events

The four winners will get 5,000, 3,000, 2,000, 1,000 points/

Designs will be judged on the criteria above.

The children’s entries need to have their name, class and house on it.

If children want to design them on a computer and print them out, that’s fine. Entries to Mr McMullan by Friday 8th November.

We have been learning to order any number between 0 and 100 from the smallest to the largest and from the largest to the smallest. We have also been doing lots lots of Hallowe’en stories, songs, drawing,  writing and art activities.
