This morning we had a presentation from British Transport Police advising us how to stay safe near the railways. We were told some really interesting and useful facts.
We worked in groups to compare Viking longhouses with our own homes.
This afternoon in dance/drama, we recorded our moves to show our interpretation of The Ride of the Valkyries.
Now that Activelearn has been updated, remember that the codes are all in lower case and are : the first 4 letters from your first and last names, woodlands and 6kwa.
You could hear a pin drop! Everyone was so engrossed in their weaving activity. We learnt that the Vikings wove cloth on their large looms, so we tried using small weaving cards and wool. It can be a bit fiddly, but we have made a good start and already the pieces of woven cloth are taking shape.
We were comparing our reading sequences with our language peer partners.
In HWB we were learning how to make a healthy fruit salad and then some of us got so sample the lovely fruit. Next week the rest of the class will have their turn.
.
In ICT we were researching what life was like as a Viking, ready for our taught writing this week.
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us this morning. Everyone enjoyed being able to share their learning and work with adults in developing their maths skills. Here are some photos of us all hard at work!
Just to let you see how the origami symmetry turned out, here are a few examples
We are looking forward to sharing our learning with you tomorrow morning. Today we have been learning some basic origami folds which we will use tomorrow to create a pattern with 2 lines of symmetry!
We have been learning about symmetry and today we were using mirrors to see the reflection of part of a shape so that we could work out what the other side of the shape would look like. Keep a look out for symmetry on your nature walks and make a note / take a photo of anything that you see
This morning we met the author Chris Duke who read his story Lucy’s Blue Day and told us some fact about his life.
In the story, Lucy’s hair changed colour depending on how she was feeling. We all have different feelings at different times and that is okay, we can also talk about our feelings if we want to and that is okay too! We really enjoyed listening to the story and meeting the author.
This afternoon, we continued to develop our ideas for dance/drama and thought about preparing for battle. What would we put on our heads? Which weapons would we take? We also learned how to “die” without hurting ourselves!
Using images of Viking Gods in stained glass, we used this as a stimulus to create our own stained glass designs. At first we selected the colours of tissue paper that we liked and stuck these firmly onto card.
Today we finished off the frames and decided where the patterns of black would be. Here are some examples of our completed work.
Please look at the School App which gives details about our author visit tomorrow. If you want to purchase books, please do so today. Thanks.
