Today we were introduced to some French Halloween 🎃 words. In order to become more familiar with them, we created our own word search and then played the puzzle too. It might be a good idea to try the site for practising your own homework words. The site is Wordsearch.com/puzzle – have fun!
Remember to get the Viking Presentation information out of your bag!!
Today we were learning about Tint and Shade in colour theory. When you add white to a base colour this provides the tint and makes lighter colours, but you add black to the base colour to create shade. Using this technique we have created a background which has already given us some inspiration for atmospheric settings in writing.
We are trying different strategies to help us develop skill skills in summarising. Today we used the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk to highlight important facts in our trios, then went into section groups depending on whether we were the beginning, middle or end of the story. Finally we retold the story in our own words to the class. We reflected on what went well and what would be even better if……. and are writing hints to help one another summarise effectively.
A huge well done to everyone in P4/5 and P5 for the great singing at the Macmillan Coffee Morning, which raised a great amount of money for a brilliant cause.
I hope that everyone has a great week- relax and recharge!
Here we all are, enjoying the Challah bread. Today we were writing instructions and deciding on the most important information. What is necessary to be able to make the bread successfully and what is just other information.
Please remember that it is the Macmillan Coffee Morning tomorrow and P4/5 and P5 are due to sing at 9.45; so if you can, please come along to support a great cause.
We learnt that during the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah, challah bread is eaten, so today we made our own challah bread. We took it in turns to add and mix the ingredients together, then during lunchtime, the dough was left to rise. After lunch we plaited the bread, so that it has the traditional shape.
While the bread was baking, we enjoyed apples dipped in honey, another symbol of Rosh Hashanah- the hope for a sweet year ahead.
Finally; we were able to taste the bread which everyone thought was delicious! We could have butter, honey or jam with it – so a lovely treat for the end of the day and a reminder of the important symbols of Rosh Hashanah.
In French we were learning the vocabulary for the seasons: Spring- le printemps, Summer- l’ été, Autumn- l’automne and winter – l’hiver. We were using the insert and symbol functions to type letters with the correct accents on them.
Please remember that the school photographer will be here on Thursday this week.
Having fun comparing the Viking symbols with our numbers! The Vikings rarely wrote numbers down, they wrote the words, but occasionally they used the first letter of the number word to stand for a number. We used the symbols to match to our number system and then wrote the symbols for a set of our numbers.
