This week in PE we were practising our shooting skills into the netball hoop. These photos show preparing – thinking about direction, power and the type of throw. The second, action shot, shows how the whole body is involved in shooting successfully, as a jump has been included.

Here we are measuring and cutting the straws to the correct size to make our Pan Pipes.

Here is the Primary Four Pan Pipe band trying out Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and having fun learning about changing pitch.

Today we were putting ourselves in order by using number words instead of the numerals. To match a number to its number words, we think about how we say the number e.g 519 is five hundred and nineteen, 635 is six hundred and thirty-five and 704 is seven hundred and four.

Homework

Homework

Today the class were introduced to the homework discussed at the open afternoon/evening.

The Sumdog login details have already been given out. The passwords for Activelearn are very similar- first 4 letters of first and last names with no capital letters or spaces, woodlands and 6kwa. There is a challenge on Sumdog and activities have been allocated on Activelearn.

Everyone has a Reading Challenge grid and anyone who wanted to borrow a book from the class library to complete part of the grid has done so. I have a log of books taken out and when they are returned, just like a real library!

I will issue a copy of spelling words so that these too can be practised at home!

We have been having fun conducting experiments to change the pitch of a sound.

Here are some websites which you should find interesting:

This is an artwork called False Perspective. We answered the place value partition questions and put the correct answers together to create the picture.

Our artwork was Grandma’s quilt, so we had to find numbers with the correct numbers in the columns to colour the quilt properly.

Making sure that we choose the correct colours and shade carefully.

For our latest science experiment we created a jar xylophone. We could hear how the pitch changed depending on how much water was in each jar.

Here we are working together to agree on the Very Important Points in our part of the class story. Each group worked on a different part then we put the ideas together to create a summary of the chapter.

Type of throw, aim and power! All of the skills necessary to get the beanbag into the hoop.

Here we are trying out a writing carousel. We read someone else’s work and then helped to point out ways that the work can be improved. It was good to see that a lot of things were pointed out for editing, although they should have been checked individually before the carousel!!

First all , thank you for visiting the class yesterday. It was great to see you and share some of our learning with you too.

This afternoon, we were working together to think about risks to our safety when we use the gym hall for P.E. We also realise that wearing the correct clothes and shoes for gym helps us to get better at our skills because we have a greater range of movement.

Finally, a huge congratulations to you, Primary 4!  You are a very cool class and deserve to be awarded the Cool Class Cup – keep up the great work!

Here, we got an opportunity to add the detail to our class tree.

We were practising number bonds to 10 and 20 in a game. It was fun and we had to think carefully about about the odd and even numbers.

We were listening to different pieces of music and letting our pencils show how the music made us feel.

During our number lesson about place value, we were challenging one another to put the random numbers in order, smallest to biggest,

We are organising our library, finding fiction and non-fiction titles which will be suitable for our reading corner.

Today we were practising an over arm throw and lots of us thought that the action felt a bit weird at first. Look at the way that legs are being used to help the thrower achieve greater power.

This morning we were learning how to extract the homey from the frames. First of all the caps have to be carefully scraped off the honey. Next Mr McMullan put the frames into the extractor. The frames were spun slowly so that the honey came out by centrifugal force. Once the frames had been turned over and spun again, Mr  McMullan filtered the honey.  It was really interesting!

In our Big Reading lesson, we worked with a partner to find words including the ea phoneme. We learned that these letters can sound like E as in dream, e as in thread and A as in break!! We were practising the skill of text marking to help us retrieve information.

During our lesson using a plastic drum we explored what would happen to the sound if we had the plastic tight and then what the sound would be like if the plastic was loose. When the plastic was tight we got a higher clearer sound and when it was loose we had a low dull sound. The pitch indicates how high or low a sound is.
