vendredi le vingt-neuf septembre

Today, it was Big Writing, so we started the lesson with our VCOP human letters and song- to the tune of YMCA! We were focusing on connectives so we tried moving the words around to make interesting sentences.

Look at our sentences. We had to change some letters to capitals when we used the words as openers.

Have a great weekend.

jeudi le vingt-huit septembre

In number we have used different methods to represent, order, identify and match place values in a variety of contexts.

When we used the dictionaries today, we learned that some words have different meanings and we have to use the meaning in the context of the sentence it is used in. For example, we had a word ‘snapped’ with meaning 3 from the verb section.  We have to think very carefully, because language can be tricky!!

As you can see our fleet of Viking longboats looks amazing! They are on display in the open area with information written by the children about how they made their boat. Other pupils and staff have been very impressed by the quality of the work. Well done, everyone!

This photo was taken during our coaching today but anyone who didn’t want to be in the picture could opt out. Today we were learning how to defend the ball and then try to take it from our partner. The worst part was when we lost control of the ball and the sharks could get involved!

Remember P.E. kits and indoor shoes; and if you are going to the football club at lunchtime, it is especially important that you are wearing the correct clothes and footwear.

Homework 26/9/17 – 2/10/17

Homework from 26/9/17 until 2/10/17

Language

Spelling words:

This week we are going to consolidate the words from the first 3 weeks. They should be practised every day in a variety of ways to gain confidence and consistent accuracy.

Say, listen to, read and write out the words -use rainbow spelling, bubble writing, flowers, etc.

Challenge yourself to write sentences which include as many of the words as possible, but the sentences must make sense. Keep thinking of visualisation and top tips to help you spell correctly.

Reading

How many different types of text have you tried to read over the past 3 weeks? We have not seen any record yet of any reading at home! Please make a note in your homework jotter of your reading practice.

Number

We are thinking about how we can recognise and record numbers in different ways.

Cut out examples of whole numbers from newspapers /magazines or other texts. Stick them into your jotter.  Numbers can be shown as words, numerals, pictures, graphs etc. Beside each example show that number in a different way, e.g. if it is in figures, then draw a picture e.g. hundreds, tens, units, base materials or tally marks ( if the number is below 50). If the number is written in words then write it as figures e.g. Fifteen = 15.

HWB

As part of our football coaching activity, we will be able to achieve different levels. For our bronze level, we are asked to find out some facts about a famous footballer (either male or female). Please research the following information:

  • Name and nationality
  • Age
  • Team or teams that the person plays for- if they are an international.
  • Favourite food
  • Favourite film
  • Any other interesting information.

We will transfer this information into your football coaching record in school.

jeudi le vingt et un septembre

Here we have another excellent Viking longboat model. Remember that all models are due in on Tuesday 26th September.

In PE we were practising how to bounce pass to a partner correctly. Then we used the correct method of shooting at the netball goal. Lots of children scored goals and made improvements each time they had a shot at goal.

Have a great long weekend and we will see you on Tuesday.

mercredi le vingt septembre

Here we are practising our football skills with our coach. There was better control of the ball today with fewer balls being kicked out of arm’s length. Goals were being scored when we looked where we were aiming and thought about the power required.

These are photos of some of the Viking longship models which have already been brought into school. As you can see, they are amazing!!

I am looking forward to seeing the whole fleet of Viking ships!

Homework 19.9.17 – 26.9.17

Homework from 19/9/17 until 26/9/17

Language

Spelling words:

This week practise the words in the third row of your spelling wall.

Use 1 of the activities in your spelling activities leaflet to practise spelling your words.

This week I will be checking the 6 focus words on Thursday.

Try out these games to help you practise you reading and spelling strategies.

Reading

Remember that we use our reading skills everywhere, not just in school and a school provided reading book. You should be reading different types of texts at home e.g. game instructions, leaflets, letters (school newsletter) and print in the environment -posters, signs, food labels, etc. Take a picture or draw an example of text that you have read (a front cover or illustration) including the title.

Number

We are learning about how numbers are made up of thousands,  hundreds, tens and units and how numbers are partitioned. This fun game will help you think about the importance of the place when putting a digit into a number. You can put the numbers onto the arrows in any order e.g. tens first and it will go to the arrow which represents the correct value. http://www.ictgames.com/arrowcards.html.

This game shows the numbers partitioned using hundreds, tens and units (ones) materials.

http://mathszone.co.uk/count-and-understand/place-value-partitioning/base-10-blocks-to-show-numbers-nlvm/

Everyone has their own sheet for place value number partitions to complete.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Remember that your Viking longboat model is due in on 26.9.17.  See last week’s homework blog for details, if you have not already started your model!

Monday 18th September 2017

Just a quick reminder today-

All homework is given out on a Tuesday and should be handed in on a Monday.

If you did not hand it in today the Head teacher has allowed you to hand it in tomorrow for this week only.  In future, if homework is not handed in then pupils will have to complete it at playtimes.

Also remember that p4 are in the lucky position of getting football coaching as a PE slot on Wednesdays for the the next 3 weeks so they should bring gym kits on those days.

vendredi le quinze septembre

The  Today we had our first Big Writing lesson! We were all very excited to find out what we were going to do, especially as there were seat swaps too!

First of all we learnt what VCOP stands for. Why not ask me, to see whether I remember? We have been finding lots of great and interesting vocabulary this week, so we moved onto connectives. We worked in pairs to put two short sentences together using connectives. We soon realised that the connective has to make sense, and you can re-order the short sentences and use different connectives. We all agreed that using ‘and ‘ all the time is a bit boring!

Next, we compared two pieces of texts and highlighted the VCOP that made the 2nd text more interesting.

Finally, we were able to use all of our learning to continue a story ourselves. We could use our targets to check that we were using the correct punctuation, WOW words, interesting sentence openers and cool connectives. Our teacher can’t wait to read our work!

mercredi le treize septembre

This afternoon we had great fun at our first football coaching session! We learned how to control the ball using soft touches with our feet, then we could shoot at goal making sure we thought about the power and direction of the shot.

This morning we looked around the school for numbers in the environment. Then we ordered the numbers we had found from smallest to largest- the numbers on the bins had 6 place value columns!

We were using different activities  to help us identify, read use and order numbers of different place values.
