Have a fabulous 2 week break. See you all in April.
Well done, everyone, your assembly was brilliant, thank you so much for performing so well.
Here are some photos:
Watch this quick video..
Looking forward to your assembly tomorrow Primary 4. You have put so much work into Cleanstream- you will be brilliant!!
There will be photos on the Blog tomorrow.
Remember that we finish slightly earlier tomorrow too!
There were some spectacular entries for the egg competition – well done everyone.
We were practising using French Easter words in ICT. We also saw some fractions and percents being used in the games to give us scores.
Our campaign and demonstration to save Cleanstream was successful and the Hydro Company are going to build the dam in the original location in another valley. We stood up for our Rights and we won!!
We are all very excited this week because we are creating and practising our class assembly. We will perform it to the rest of the school on Friday. Today we did some filming for it and practised what we have to say and do. This afternoon we found out more about the Easter story and sequenced the main events. Remember that tomorrow is the egg competition. Bring in your Hollywood inspired works of art tomorrow!
After writing brilliant persuasive letters yesterday, a representative from the Hydro Company came to visit Cleanstream and talk to the community about their concerns.
We are waiting for the representative and deciding how we are going to put our case forward.
The representative answered questions and listened to the concerns of the Cleanstream residents. It became clear that she only had some facts and did not realise that Cleanstream is so beautiful and peaceful. The community put their case very well and they demonstrated that they really cared about their situation.
We watched a news clip about communities in the Amazon , Brazil , managing to stop a dam being built which would destroy their homes, culture, lives and the nature in the area.
We are going to fight for our community by setting up a campaign and getting support from people in the city who love the environment. We will keep you up to date with any future developments.
We were discovering some fraction facts. 1 fifth is the same as 2 tenths. In the picture 1 third is the same as 2 sixths. We will be finding other fractions which are the same size as each other.
To help us remember some French words for colours, numbers and Mardi Gras we used a great site in ICT. There were lots of different games to help us practise and we were introduced to some new words too!
The 22 nd March is World Water Day and this year the theme is waste water. We thought the information was interesting and it is great to hear that so many of you are thinking about ways to save and reuse water. Keep going, it is really important that we think about how we use the Earth’s resources.
Today is World Poetry Day. We listened to some limericks and some were really funny!
Our favourite was –
There was a young man from Leeds.
Who ate a whole packet of seeds.
In less than an hour
his nose was a flower
and his head was a garden of weeds!
We looked at a few and identified the rules for writing limericks. we completed some of our own.
Here is one written by someone in our class –
There was a young man from France
who wanted to take a chance.
He played all day.
He won. Hooray!
And his joy was heard all through France
This morning we also learned how to count to ten in Japanese. Mrs McMillan had a really easy way to remember the words. Why don’t you ask us to show you?
Yesterday the class community quizzed Laura to find out more about her. Could she be trusted?
These were our families finding out about the dam being built in our valley.
As a community it was decided that we should help Laura and invite her to stay with us in Cleanstream. Laura’s letter spoke about a dam being built and her house being flooded. We thought that our community was safe because we had seen the plan with the proposed dam being in another valley at the Great Waterfalls.
However ……. shortly after that Cleanstream Community Council received a letter, saying that homes were being built for us in the city and that we would have to move!. We went to investigate the site and found loads of activity, machinery and dam building starting to take place. We are not going to let our community end up under water, so we are going to write to the Hydro Company telling them what we think!!
Here we are working together to move and sound like a piece of machinery at the dam. It was very noisy when all the machinery was working at the same time!
In WW, WP? we were trying to decide which group were letting the community down. Several people spoke very well about their roles and were passionate about how well they work to support the community.
Today there has been a twist in the story. A stranger has arrived in Cleanstream!
The stranger was very upset and confused, but luckily some kind community members invited her to talk to them. After hearing some of what she had to say, the community have thought about whether they trust her or not. Have your questions ready for tomorrow to find out more about Laura and why she has come to Cleanstream!
