mercredi le trente novembre

We had a great St Andrew’s Day. Everyone looked so cool in their tartan. After number, French and ICT, we had a special St Andrew’s Assembly presented by P5/6.

We were told lots of facts about St Andrew. We sang songs with actions like ” The 3 craws” and there was an inter- house quiz where we could earn points for our houses.

Tomorrow we will be writing a recount piece of writing about today, so we will have lots to write about.

Firstly, what a great job Primary 4 have done in preparing the Snowman Soup. They look wonderful and apparently taste delicious!

img_2357

They are still available to buy either tomorrow or at the Christmas Fayre. Still only £1 and the best value yet!

In P. E. we were developing our skills using a racquet. The number of keepie-ups improved for most people and there was better control of power and direction when hitting the ball.

We started a section of learning about fact and opinion. We took part in some different activities which tested our understanding about the subject.

img_2353 img_2355 img_2356

We worked together to identify facts and opinions, justify our choices and then thought of our own facts and opinions about 4 subjects.

Tuesday 22nd November 2016

We were getting into the Christmas spirit this afternoon making Snowman soup parcels for the Christmas Fayre and practising our Nativity performance.

ONLY £1 for Snowman Soup.  It’s delicious. It’s yummy. It’s bigger and better than ever before! Don’t miss out!

We had great fun today getting active for Pudsey. We were thinking about Article 24 about a clean and safe environment and Article 31 the Right to relax and play . There are children who do not enjoy the same Rights as ourselves, but we have contributed to Children in Need and hopefully will make some children’s lives a little better.

Have a great weekend and see you on Tuesday.

In P.E. we were practising our stretches during warm up. We also learned top tips for balancing on one leg without wobbling and hopping about! We learnt how to hold our bat properly so that have more control. Then we were practising keepy-uppies with a sponge ball. We are going to try to improve our scores each week to demonstrate how our skills are improving.

This afternoon we were focusing on vertical addition. We were going over what we had learnt in Primary 3 and are ready to practise  additions ourselves. Can you explain to someone how to add using exchange?img_2134

Remember to wear your spots for Pudsey tomorrow. It will be a fun day, but with a focus on children who are not able to have the same Rights as ourselves.

Today’s learning has been all about the board games. We designed the board with our own theme and used tiling shapes for the pathways

.img_2118 img_2119 img_2120 img_2121

Once the board was completed, we had to think about the numbers going round the board. Each group had their own  patterns to think of and use. When the numbers were added, we thought of interesting consequences e.g. Move 2 plus 5.

This afternoon we wrote the instructions for our games. There was a lot to think about! Finally we had the chance to play someone else’s game using their instructions. It was fun to share our learning.

Here we are peer checking each other’s instructions.

Friday 11th November

Today was a special day in Woodlands and around the country.   P7 led a special Remembrance Day assembly this morning which was very interesting. The whole school also took part in a 2 minute silence at 11am.

In addition we tried a new fun way to practise our spelling words. Why don’t you try it at home? We also painted our Thor’s hammers and wrote book reviews for our reading corner.

Thursday 10th November

P4  completed their Viking god posters and presented their findings to the class.  We rounded up our Viking topic by recording the ways in which our lives today are different from if we had been alive in Viking times.  This afternoon we had a visit from  some experts who gave us a taster session of Tae Kwon Do. img_2078 img_2079 img_2082 img_2083 img_2084 img_2085 img_2086 img_2087 img_2097 img_2098 img_2099

Tuesday 8th November

The Viking theme continues…

This morning we made oatcakes in class. Although Vikings would have ground the oats using a quern and cooked them over a fire, we had our oats ground in a food processor and cooked in an electric oven. We did shape them by hand and enjoyed tasting them with strawberry jam. Delicious!!  Check out the photos to follow our recipe and make them at home.  Our recipe makes 8 oatcakes.  This afternoon we used clay to make replica Thor’s Hammers.

We started our reading challenge booklet and will keep them in school. Pupils can choose a book from home to bring in as a personal reader or choose one from the class library. Check out the website www.readingchallenge.scot to get ideas and recommendations on books to read.
