This afternoon we painted our Picasso inspired painting of “The Girl on the Ball,” from the Rosé Period.

This afternoon we were looking at Picasso’s rosé (pink) period. The colours mainly used were pink and orange. This was when he felt a lot happier because he was hanging around with actors, clowns and circus characters.

This afternoon we went down to the Luggie Nature Reserve.  We had a look for signs of Spring  and noticed a big difference in the vegetation since our last visit on 8th January.  We also created symmetrical images using natural resources.

In Maths we’ve be looking at multiplication.

Join the dots Children make a simple join-the-dots puzzle using answers to a chosen times-table in order. They draw a simple outline of a shape or picture in pencil without taking the pencil off the paper. Then, using pen, they write numbers in order. Finally, the shape is rubbed out to leave a puzzle for a friend or family member.

Phoney phone Ask children to look at the arrangement of numbers on a phone (or a remote control). Ask them to copy the arrangement of the display, but instead of writing the digits 1 to 9, they multiply each digit by 3, e.g. the display would show 3, 6, 9, 12, etc. Ask the children to discuss any patterns they see, e.g. that multiples of 9 form a line on the display.

Who wants to be a millionaire? Each child makes up several ‘Who wants to be a millionaire?’ questions using the facts from the 3, 4 and 5 times-tables. They make up four answers for each question, A, B, C and D, only one of which is correct. The questions can be used as a quiz for friends and family.

The answer is 2400 – Ask your child to write as many multiplication questions as he/she can involving multiples of 10 and 100 with the answer 2400, e.g. 3 × 800, 40 × 60, 12 × 200, 80 × 30, 120 × 20, 400 × 6, etc. Encourage your child to include more than two numbers in the multiplication questions, e.g. 3 × 40 × 20 or 2 × 20 × 60 or 2 × 2 × 2 × 300, etc. Other target numbers could be given,
e.g. 360, 4800 or 6400, etc.

Funny puzzles – Spend some time writing some funny puzzles. For example, what is the number of doors in your house, multiplied by your favourite number and then divided by your age? Ask your child to make up and calculate answers to four different puzzles. Puzzles could then be brought into class to share with friends.

Teach them how – Ask your child to make an information leaflet for a friend, teaching them about the link between multiplication and division facts.

Literacy

 Match the expressions with their meanings.

Today we had a fun filled day when we learned more about the Rights of the Child as well as keeping fit activities.  We worked with children in different classes and were taught be other teachers.  Everyone had a great time and we helped raised money for charity.

Last week week we learned about similes and metaphors.  This afternoon we had to illustrate a simile or a metaphor.

This morning we practised netball skills before playing mini sided games in teams of 4.  The first rule of netball that we had to learn was that netball is a non-contact sport!!! Next week, Mrs Pollock will introduce us to more rules of netball.

This afternoon we went outside in the lovely sunshine and made symmetrical pictures from things we found in the nature garden.

This afternoon we looked at another of Picasso’s painting from the blue period.  It was called the Girl with the Dove.  We looked closely at the painting focusing  on perspective and size. We then sketched the painting before painting it. 

This afternoon, we went outside to learn how to play safely on the Trim Trail.  We particularly focused on the new equipment.  Hopefully tomorrow we will find out at assembly when we will be allowed on the Trim Trail.

This afternoon, we used the computers in the Digital Learning Room.  We researched some images of heads that Picasso painted then we used the graphic package Picasso Head to create some Picasso inspired art of our own.
