Monday after the holiday

Today we where learning multiplying, reading and singing.

In maths we learned that if the number you are multiplying by has two zeros, then you move the digits 2 times.

In reading we got a new book. We read the first chapter in our books and then made a summery about our class novel “stormbreaker”. Tomorrow we are going to apply this skill to our new book.

We also did singing with the high school music teacher for Christmas choir. We learned 3 different songs – “chasing cars”, “shut up” and dance and “Do you want to build a snowman?”.

Here are some epic recordings of our singing.

In IDL we were also learning about Daniel Lloyd who is a former professional bike rider. He was with “world Bicycle relief” in Zambia last week and we are going to be interviewing him about his trip in a couple of weeks! First part of homework is to plan your interview questions!

Maths

today we started of with maths. we were doing dividing and multiplying BY 10, 100 and 1,000. Top tips for this are to move the digit left when multiplying and move the digit right when dividing.

try these awesome games!

No prizes for guessing that Mr McMullan won with 11 seconds!

Try and beat his score!

Tuesday 10th of October 2017

This morning we had Mrs Rutherford and we learned a new religion called Sikhism.

Sikhism isn’t a very old religion. We learned about a guru who disappeared for 3 days and when he came back he didn’t speak for a whole day. The day after he said that he met God and that there was only one god.

In maths we were learning BOGLF

“BUY ONE GET LOTS FREE”

If you buy one sum, you can get lots free

for example 6 + 4 = 10 can be used to make

  • 4 + 6 =10
  • 60 + 40 = 100
  • 100-40 = 60

we also used this for times tables – double the 2 times table to get the answer for the 4 times table.

Here is a photograph of the new learning bubble from today’s maths lesson.

In language we learned how to answer questions using the contents,  the contents helped us find the correct pages in our book.  the books that primary 7  are :

  • ancient china= the verbs
  • to the rescue= the commas
  • mummies and monuments= the nouns

after we finished out work we had to write an evaluation on that peice of work…

In health and well being we learned a new song called: A healthy life. we done a mini competition where the boys and girls did a singing competition against each other and of course the boys WON!

Maths

Practice, practice, practice your times tables on hit the button. We are going to be having a battle tables team world cup and a battle tables individual world cup after the holiday. The more you practice, the more chance you have of winning the world cup prize!

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

You also have new doubles games on your active learn account

HWB

As part of our healthy eating challenge – try and do one full day with no sweets, chocolate, fizzy juice or cake. For another day, try and eat 7 or more fruit and veg in one day.

As preparation for getting a kitchen practice your cooking skills by making breakfast, lunch or dinner for everyone in your house!

lundi neuf ctobre

Today we were learning basic yoga standing poses.  We were focusing on learning correct technique and keeping all parts of our bodies straight.

As an assessment, we made slideshows to demonstrate correct technique.

As part of French we were also continuing learning days of the weeks and months of the year.

For more practice, try this epic game!

Happy Friday!

Today we did a beekeeping experiment!

At the end of the beekeeping year, we can melt down the old wax, filter it  and get fresh bees wax which can be used for furniture polish or candles.

We were testing different materials, to find out which was the best at filtering the wax.

we started by taking all the old wax from the frames. Not a fun job!

Then we melted the wax in an old pot that we were never going to use for cooking again.

then we filtered the wax through 4 different materials

  • coffee filters
  • kitchen roll
  • muslin cloths
  • normal cloths.

Most people predicted that the coffee filters would be the best at filtering.

Our conclusion was that the kitchen paper and the coffee filters were best at filtering because the holes were smaller. There was a problem with the coffee filters, however, because the holes were so small that the wax began to cool down and solidify, blocking the holes.

Here is the final product! It’s only a tiny bit, but we only have two hives.

jeudi cinq octobre

Today we were blasting our fitness! We did two full rounds of the fitness video and then we continued to work on our skipping technique.

We are getting super fit and in particular we are refusing to give up when we get tired and sore!

In maths we continued to work on our doubles – we played an epic tug of war game on active learn!

In language we have finished our books! We used the retrieving skill to pull out important information about our books and created 60 second summaries of the books.

Here are two we recorded!

mercredi quatre octobre

Today we had a special visitor in maths

Mrs Keith has been teaching us about maths for years and she came to see how we had been getting on.

We explore doubles and near doubles and we also used our previous learning about partitioning (splitting) numbers to help make this easier.

We were also learning about fixing computer code. Computer code is instructions fro the computer. If you don’t give the computer the correct instructions, then it won’t do what you want it to!

Finding and fixing the instructions is a great way to get better at this!

Finally, we were assessing our learning in French by doing a listening activity.

How many of these dates can you translate into English?

mardi le trois octobre

Today we were using the RACECAR idea to help us problem solve.

We had to experiment and check our answer was correct, by following the information in the question.

here is the problem – can anyone at home work out the correct solution?

***NO HELPING KIDS!***

A farmer needs to take a chicken, a fox and a bag of grain across a river.

He can only take one thing in his boat at a time.

He can’t leave the fox alone with the chicken.

He can’t leave the chicken alone with the grain.

What order does he take the animals across the river in?

He can go across and back as many times as he wants.

We were also continuing to apply what we have learned in French. We were designing a French calendar using our knowledge of numbers, days and months and we were using google translator to help us work out the French names for different events throughout the year.
