Wednesday 28th

For our house assembly we have been creating banners to get our houses excited.

img_2539 img_2540

We have also been creating and applying in ICT. We have been applying what we have learned about designing menus to our learning about French food to create a French menu!

img_2541 img_2542 img_2543

We also had a special nature visit today! We were learning about pine martins, badgers, foxes and roe deer. All of these animals live in Cumbernauld and we were learning about how to identify them.

img_2555 img_2556 img_2557 img_2560 img_2562 img_2563 img_2564 img_2565 img_2566 img_2569 img_2572 img_2574

In P.E. we were learning to catch and pass balls without looking. This is hard at first but after some practice we were able to catch the ball with our eyes closed.

Finally, in maths we are applying what we have learned about adding and subtracting decimals to money. We are designing our own shops with prices and creating shopping lists for our partner. They will then have to add and subtract decimal numbers (money) to work out the answer.

Homework for week beginning 26th September

Homework for week beginning 27.9.16

Literacy

For writing this week, we are going to be creating instructions and persuasive food packaging for jam. This is also going to be linked to the Macmillan coffee morning on Friday morning. We will be making jam in class to use during the coffee morning.

For homework

  • Research a jam recipe online, print it or write it down and bring it in by tomorrow. Any type of jam is fine, but make sure you record all the ingredients and weights and the specific instructions.
  • Design your own packaging for “WOODLANDS JAM”. Make up your own name, logo, tagline and colour scheme.

Reading – make sure you have fully read up to the pages

  • comma – Pg 101
  • Verbs – Pg 91
  • Nouns – Pg 127

Maths

To apply what we have been learning about adding decimals, we are going to be shopping! This means that we have to add the decimal numbers together by using number bonds we know and by looking for doubles.

For homework,

  • Design your own shop in your house. Choose items to sell and make a price list, then pretend to be a shop keeper with your friends or family.
  • Go online shopping – find the cheapest price you can for the following items.
    • Loaf of Hovis white bread.
    • 2L of full fat milk
    • Tub of Haagen Dazs Pralines and cream
    • A bag of pink lady apples
    • 500g chicken breast
    • Pack of 8 bacon rashers.
    • 500g bag of frozen peas.
  • Add up the total cost of the items – is it less than £10?

HWB

We are learning about different fitness exercises and how to perform the proper technique. For homework

  • Design your own fitness circuit or class. Make sure to include how long you have to perform the activity for, how long rest you get in between activities and a diagram to show correct technique. Pretend to be a fitness instructor and give someone at home a workout.

Happy (fake) Friday!

We had a super busy day at school today!

Firstly, we had some amazing homework!

img_2517

Then we explained what we have learned this week in school. We have made a huge improvement in our learning logs so far this year by including more detail and our own thoughts.

img_2518 img_2519 img_2520 img_2521 img_2522 img_2523 img_2524

Today we focused on including real life examples of the skill we were learning.

To practice our number bonds, we were playing a game called “wild west”. We had to shoot number bonds at each other and then our partner had to shoot them back at us.

img_2525 img_2526 img_2527 img_2528

we also used our number bonds to create posters for our maths wall and to create maths board games.

Wednesday

IMPORTANT NOTICE! – Mr McMullan is looking for empty jars – any size. If you can keep an eye out in your kitchen for any clean, empty jars, that would be EPIC!

This morning we were learning to add decimals.

Top Tips for doing this are to look for number bonds and doubles. Then match the numbers together and tick them off the list.

We were playing bowling with decimals scores on each skittle!

In PE we were working on our technique and improving our fitness.

We started with a circuit outside and then moved to the gym hall to run a fitness circuit.

We were then applying what we learned about organising questions yesterday to creating questions about our reading books.

This week so far!

Yesterday we were planning the Eco active day which takes place at the end of September.

img_2374 img_2375 img_2376 img_2377 img_2378 img_2379

The house captains were also counting the house points. They were also encouraging and supporting the Vice house captain nominees in their application and speeches.

In maths, we were applying what we have already learned about 2D regular and irregular shapes to help us create something new – an insect diagram.

In P.E. we were learning about marking in football.

img_2462 img_2463

In maths today we continued to recap our number bonds and applied them to decimals on the giant ipad.
