Wetnesday

Today we were making linksanalysing, applying and working with others.

In maths, we started to order decimals. We haven’t learned this yet, so it was a chance to try something new without any help.

We have also built up our weather recording wall to record the weather each month.

The music man Mr McCriel also came in to do a demonstration of the trombone. He will be offering music lessons to children so if you are interested speak to him next week.

As part of PE as well, we walked our daily mile. It took us 21 minutes! we need to try and speed up to see if we can go faster.

Tuesday 30th August

Today, we started to build up our “SKILLS WALL”.

On the blog, we have been highlighting skills we have been learning or developing in bold. Over the next year, we will be specifically working to develop and practice these skills.

Some skills we have worked on so far include

predicting

organising

justifying

In ICT today, we were applying the skill of inserting a table to MS word to our plan for learning about the weather.

IMG_2096 IMG_2097 IMG_2098 IMG_2099 IMG_2100 IMG_2101 IMG_2103

We designed a table to monitor the rainfall, wind direction, temperature and any other comments.

DON’T FORGET PE KIT TOMORROW.

Monday 29th August

This morning in P.E. we were learning to apply our ball skills to a game of football.

We had to pass to all the members of our team before we could score!

We then planned our outdoor learning for this year.

We explored the different things we have around the school that can help us to learn about nature and about the outdoors. We then identified what we wanted to learn about and how we could do that.

IMG_2094 IMG_2095

We also performed a risk assessment with a list of Dos and Don’ts.

In maths, we were practicing to read and write numbers. We are so good at numbers now that we can read numbers up to quadrillions!

IMG_2078 IMG_2080 IMG_2081 IMG_2083 IMG_2087

We were also learning how to recognise numbers that have been built using place value cubes.

Finally we had some fun because we won the cool class cup! We played archers on the wii, which helped us to practice our hand/eye coordination

Thursday 25.8.16

Today we were busy bees!

We created our own ideas for the class charter.

We then discussed the ideas and which we would like. A vote decided that the theme would be a “HAPPY WORLD”

Finally, we debated which rights were most important to us as a class and voted on the 5 most important. The results were

ARTICLE 28 – you have the right to a good education

ARTICLE 14 – you have the right to choose your own religion

ARTICLE 31 – you have the right to play and rest

ARTICLE 29 – your education should develop your talents and abilities.

ARTICLE 12 – you have the right to give your opinion and have it listened to and taken seriously.

In ICT we made notes about bees while watching a video, then researched the answers to the questions we had.

We explored the shapes of spelling words and analysed them to work out which word fits in which shape.

This week so far

This week so far we have been learning to design menus for fancy restaurants in ICT.

We applied what we have been learning about fonts in handwriting to this learning and explored different types of layouts.

IMG_1960 IMG_1961 IMG_1962 IMG_1963 IMG_1964 IMG_1965 IMG_1966 IMG_1967 IMG_1968 IMG_1972

We have been discussing children’s rights – what they mean and what they look like in Woodlands Primary School.

IMG_1974 IMG_1975 IMG_1977 IMG_1978 IMG_1979 IMG_1980

In  P.E. we were learning to move like animals – monkeys, horses, caterpillars and crabs. We are analysing the specific way these animals move their limbs to learn how to move in different ways and then apply these to sport.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, head over to the “buzzing about bees” blog to see how we are getting on.

Monday 22nd August

We have had an amazing first few days in Primary 7.

We have been exploring new fonts, learning to communicate effectively, planning our maths walls, discussing rights, reading a new class novel and building strong, respectful teams.

In maths today, we had to ask questions about a mystery number to work out what it was.

IMG_1922 IMG_1923 IMG_1924 IMG_1925 IMG_1926 IMG_1927 IMG_1928 IMG_1929

In team building, we had to nominate representatives of our team to compete against other teams in two different mystery activities. Then we planned our tactics as a team.

IMG_1958 IMG_1959

We also designed a poster to demonstrate what rights mean to us and what they look like in Woodlands Primary School.

IMG_1933 IMG_1934 IMG_1935 IMG_1936

Finally, we prepared the floor board in the bee hive to perform a varroa count (see buzzing about bees blog for more details) by cleaning the board.

  • find out what a number with 15 digits is called
  • read your telephone number as if it was a normal number
  • find the biggest number you can in your house
