Today Primary Seven have been getting ready for Halloween!

We are showing others what properties quadrilaterals have!

We have been identifying the properties of different quadrilaterals; investigating their internal angles, bisecting diagonals and the length of their sides.

We have been showing what we know about speech marks by creating a PowerPoint to help others!

We have been practising our origami skills. Some of the class chose to make origami dogs!

There will be a meeting here at Woodlands on Wednesday 11th November at 7pm. Both Mrs Linda Park, Head Teacher, and Mrs Eileen McLoughlin, Depute Head Teacher, from Greenfaulds will be coming down along with some senior pupils to tell us more about high school. Please let us know if you would like to come along so we have an idea of numbers for the hall!

Today we used two different sources to find information about schools in Japan. We took notes and categorised the information we found.

Numeracy
We have been leaning to multiply decimal numbers by 10. Remember when multiplying decimal numbers by 10 the DECIMAL POINT stays in the same place and the DIGITS move one place to the LEFT! We have also been learning how to divide with decimal numbers. Knowing all of your times tables will help when you are completing your division.

• Write your own division sums e.g. 1891.2 ÷ 8, 3325.2 ÷ 6 or 7330.5 ÷ 9
• Time yourself to see how quickly you can multiply 5 decimal numbers by 10 – Can you improve your best time?

Literacy
Reading: Metalinguistic Strategies (strategies to help find the meanings of words you don’t know)
Writing: Grammar – Revising the use of speech marks to show direct speech. Try writing a part of a story which includes direct speech. Remember to take a new line for a new speaker!

Spelling: Soft g sound (after e, i or y) generosity, sergeant, engine and gym

Ideas for further practise at home:

• Choose an article from a newspaper or magazine and identify a word you DO NOT know the meaning of. Choose an appropriate strategy to help you work out what the word means: Sounds like a word you know, Break it up into parts and see if you recognise any parts, Find the root of a word, Read it in context (reading sentences before and after the word) or Use the index (if there is one) Afterwards check the meaning to see how accurate you were.

• Choose 10 ‘soft g’ words and write a short paragraph being sure to include all of them. Ask an adult to check the spelling of ALL words but particularly the ‘soft g’ words.

Japan topic – tsunamis and earthquakes

Ideas for further practise at home:

• Investigate the last major tsunami or earthquake in Japan
• Create a model of a Japanese house that will withstand a tsunami in the classroom

Remember you can use your thinking jotter to record any thoughts or ideas you have when looking at these topics and I would love to see anything you create at home!
