Burns and other Fun Learning

Burns Celebrations

We said our poems and we painted our thistles then we drank irn bru and had shortbread. We enjoyed sitting with our friends and having a celebration together.

Famous Scots

We’ve been learning about famous Scots. My favourite was David Livingstone because he stood against slavery.

PE Next week on Wednesday and Thursday.

Happy New Year! 2017

Happy New Year to all of our P4s their families and friends!

We started back with a bang. The children worked hard and completed a maths assessment on division which they did well in.

Well done to Abira and Morgan this week’s certificate winners for setting a good example of hard work!
Morgan enjoyed choosing her own words for her spelling test. Abira liked doing a story writing assessment.

Resolutions

Rhys would like to improve his division in maths.

Craig would like to get better and move on to the 4 times tables so when tests get harder he’ll know what to do.

PE This term will be on Mondays and Thursdays so kits would be for those days. Outdoor PE Will be on Thursday.

Joyeux Noel et Bonne Annee from P4

This week we learned some French vocabulary for Christmas words and that traditionally they give presents on Christmas Eve.  Le Pere Noel (Father Christmas) delivers them. French children put shoes outside their bedroom door and Santa fills them with sweeties.

We’re looking forward to our Christmas party tomorrow.

What Christmas Means to Me

Advent

We’ve learned about Jesus and why he is the reason that we have Christmas.  Craig said,” that advent means arrival of someone important.”

“Advent begins 4 weeks before Christmas,” Ellie shared and it’s the start of the Christian new year.

Louie added, “People put up advent calendars to count the day until Jesus’ birthday.”

Whitelees Christmas Concert

Nervous, energised, confident, happy, smiling, excited, different and enjoyable are some of the words that P4 used to describe how they feel after the first performance of the week.

Come see us on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday evening. Please check with the office to see when tickets are available.

Growth Mind

Growth Mind Set

Primary 4 children have been learning about Growth Mind Set and how to persevere when finding out about new subjects or learning new skills.

Logan says if you keep keep trying then you will get it right. Luca thinks if you watch something then you can try your best to do it too. Craig liked playing memory games to improve his score. Many of the children got better with practise but we need to keep trying.

Enterprise Week

Parent Visits

This week was great fun because parents and Cameron came to tell us all about their jobs and skills for work Craig remembered. We learned that you can sell things when you communicate well and know the market. Luca said.

We learned that for some jobs you need to be fit and others you need to be able to count Ethan added.  Abira said qualities can be good for jobs for example you should be caring and kind.

Children In Need

Adam said we made Pudsey bandanas. For children in need we did a warm up and Pudsey jump for exercise. Kady Anne liked this.

Hard Workers Pennies to Pounds!

Real Life Maths

Craig said that we’ve been working with money to help us when we’re older to know how to sort money and how much to spend.

Luca said we played money bingo and I learned to count up and match the money.

It was maths but real life because it taught us how to count Morgan added.

I like when we do French because we learn about the language that people speak Mya shared.

Shanna has enjoyed learning more about the characters in her book especially Denzil.

Beginning Term 2 in P4

Halloween          Image result for carved pumpkins

P4 will be having a Halloween party on Friday afternoon so could each child please bring a costume in a bag.  There will be time to change after lunch and it will be a fun way for the children to end to the week.

Monsters and Halloween

At the start of the week the children created acrostic poems about monsters or Halloween. Here is a selection of their work. The star writers wrote poems with similes.
